Changing bags?

I've been looking around for changing bags and really like the skip hop changing bag

But I just can't justify spending so much having spent so much already (and who knows how much of it we will use!)..plus with coronavirus I'm not sure we will be going anywhere soon :(

Which bag did you go for? Any cheaper alternatives or is skip hop really worth it?

@New2020 I’ll see how it is when it arrives tomorrow and let you know what the quality is like 😊 Online4Baby have some great deals on lovely changing bags at the moment! Including some Skip Hop ones so might be worth a look 😊 they had things for £35/40 which I don’t think is bad considering the amount of use it’ll get 😊

I’m just justifying it to myself by saying I probably won’t use a handbag for at least the next year so I can treat myself to a “nice” bag to use lol. I know a regular rucksack is probably just as practical 😂 but hey 🤷🏻‍♀️

Thanks @RWK29 let me know! I'll check out online 4 baby too!!

I normally wouldn't think twice but I've spent so much already I'm feeling guilty!!!

Got a cheap Amazon changing bag (they come in loads of colours and brands but are all pretty much identical from the same Chinese factory) the first time. It’s lasted two years and is fine but a big grubby and sandy now (it’s been to the beach lots!) so I’m going to treat myself to a new backpack for this baby. This time I’m just going to go for a skate/surf/snowboard brand bag as they tend to be nice and roomy and reasonably priced, and in fun colours and prints. I find the ‘fancy’ changing bags have a premium price tag just because they are a baby item; and are a bit boring and grown up for me. I really like some of the Burton snowboard backpacks. A nice big 30l backpack will fit loads of cloth nappies in!

I bought this one from amazon it's really good!

After 2 DCs, the best arrangement ive come up with is a small bag so go in the buggy basket to contain nappies, wipes, changing mat and spare clothes. Then a backpack that also has a shoulder strap to hang over the handle bars as a handbag for me plus toys, bottle of water, easy access wipes and sanitiser etc.

DappledThings · 23/08/2020 11:25

Just get a normal backpack that you like. There's really no point spending extra on a bag becuase it calls itself a changing bag.

Changing bags attract the “baby “ premium in the same way as nursery furniture. A wardrobe is a wardrobe!

I had the larger of the Cath Kidston ones for my DTs. It was great. Stacks of room for everything, insulated pockets on the side for two bottles and had a clip in mini bag for my stuff as well as an adjustable strap to fit over the double pram.

Once they were mobile and I sold the pram, I sold it on eBay and used a CK rucksack which again had double bottle holders for their juice and bought a cool looking folding mat on amazon.

Whilst any bag will do, I really did love my changing bag as it had so many pockets and I could keep it organised. I found it pretty, and I loved having something that was for me whilst being practical too.

If you’ve got your heart set on a particular bag, have a look on eBay!

I planned on just using my Longchamp tote and looked at getting an organiser insert (they have lots on Amazon). I ended up using an old rucksack as it was much easier. This week though we’ve upgraded Grin to this:

www.decathlon.co.uk/nh500-10l-backpack-blue-id_8383593.html

It’s big enough for everything I need. If I get anything bigger I’ll just fill it with things I don’t need. Might not work as DS gets older and clothes/nappies are bigger and I’ll need toys but it was cheap so it’s not a big problem.

Betsyboo87 · 23/08/2020 12:28

Oh and we got a couple of bottle holders like these:

The actual ones we got were about £2 from Decathlon.

@New2020 I bought a MommyMoo backpack from TKMaxx online for not a lot of money. Did the job really well and planning for further DC I could justify binning it, in order to get a new one.

They do have a SkipHop one featured currently:

Nappy bags are a scam just buy a regular bag that suits your lifestyle!

Bandol · 23/08/2020 12:47

I had the Skip Hop Pronto changing mat that @HarrietM87 mentioned. It was great to just put in whatever bag was most appropriate for the type of outing, not expensive and it was very hard wearing.

New2020 · 23/08/2020 14:49

@SassyPants87 I was just looking at that one! I'm a bit put off by the front pocket being a button rather than zip. Do you find it opens up with bottles in?

I've got the pippibear backpack style changing bag and I absolutely love it. Its got lots of compartments and my favourite bit is that you can unzip abit at the bottom on the back to access things at the bottom of the bag without having to rummage through. I usually put the nappies and wipes at the bottoms so I can get to them easier this way. I dony use it much now as dd is 2 but due 2nd baby in December and its lasted well and looks like new still so ill be using it for another 2+ years. Defiantly worth the money

RWK29 · 25/08/2020 08:06

@New2020 Skip Hop Forma arrived and it looks great 😊 really good quality and SO much space inside. Haven’t used it yet as our little one isn’t due for another 10 weeks but looks like it’ll do the job well 😊

NeuroMama · 25/08/2020 09:45

I managed to get he Skip Hop Duo backpack half price a couple of months ago. I am due my first any week now so can't testify if it is better than other bags, but it might be worth keeping your eyes pealed for a good deal on them.

LASandOtto · 25/08/2020 09:49

There seems to be various Skip Hop bags on sale here:

I got one from eBay for the childminder - used a lululemon backpack myself (expensive but chic with loads of pockets!). It was a very expensive one but basically unused for a tenner on eBay. Try that?
