Worried about scan photo

Hi,

So I had my 13 week scan on Thursday and as far as I'm aware all is ok. Apparently she could see the nose, but had some difficulties trying to get a still picture as the baby kept stretching its arms and legs. I've looked at all of my friends scans and scans on the internet and none look like this! My baby has a flat face with nothing! It's arm I can see next to face, but that surely isn't covering the features. I'm freaking out and would love to know your thoughts?

Many thanks!

It's probably just the angle - I bet baby moved as she took the picture! If she could see the nose there's nothing to worry about. They're squirming so much in there at that time with so much room it's a wonder anyone gets a decent picture. Mine has form for moving right at the wrong moment and taking a terrible pic - our best one was our first one and subsequent ones we have no idea what we're looking at! - but we've always been reassured they saw everything they needed to and the picture was just a bonus.

You would have been told if there was anything amiss so do try not to worry!

Baby probably turned their face away right as the still was being taken. Honestly nothing to worry about ❤️ congratulations!

I'm no sonographer but to my uneducated eye it looks like baby has turned his/her head to the side (looking towards your back) so what you are seeing is the back/side of their head rather than a profile pic.

WutheredOut · 22/08/2020 20:05

DS scan looked like a stegosaurus - it’s just the angle don’t panic

VeggieSausageRoll · 22/08/2020 20:06

Looks like baby has turned it's head away from the "front" of the picture.

A still image gives very little info compared to what a trained professional sees on the scan. If the sonographer had any concerns, they'd have been mentioned.

Grumpy19 · 22/08/2020 20:06

I agree, your baby probably turned it's face away from the scanner as the pic was taken so the flat might be side of face.

SleepingStandingUp · 22/08/2020 20:09

Without looking at the picture: if there was an issue with your baby's face, the sonographer wouldn't withhold info or lie. Do you really think I'd there's something wrong with baby's face that they'll just not tell you until she's born?

Looking at the pic: baby's turned her head so it's not profile, it the side
If you look at the spine I'd say baby is turned slightly away from the picture all the way down, as if she's curled away cos she's shy.

ZigZagPlant · 22/08/2020 20:11

My DS didn’t stay still enough for my 20 week scan so he looked like a head and a spine - a lollipop basically.

It’s just the angle.

turquoisebaby · 22/08/2020 21:05

I'm pretty sure scans are 2d, so its like a slice of your baby, so if it was ever so slightly not central it can miss the nose, likewise the baby turning its head. I had pictures of my DS like this, he has a nose in some but not in others.

Dogsgowoofwoof · 22/08/2020 21:13

I get awful scan pics because every single piece of fat I own seems to sit on my stomach, therefore blocking the view of the baby,
I really wouldn’t worry. If they had concerns they would have been mentioned.

FightMilkTM · 22/08/2020 21:15

All I got was a picture of a foot for my 20 week scan HmmGrin
Can confirm that much more than a foot exited me at 41 weeks

GirlCalledJames · 22/08/2020 21:19

My daughter’s scans looked like exactly her when she was born, so I was quite alarmed when the second child basically looked like Gollum all the way through. He looked exactly like his sister when he was born, though.

showmewhatyougot · 22/08/2020 21:24

If the medical professional doing the scan wasn't worried, or even mentioned anything to you, there is nothing to worry about. Ultrasound pictures are not the best quality especially if the baby is moving a lot.

MAJKER30 · 23/08/2020 19:53

Oh you all are wonderful! Thank you. I was just so worried literally a few hours after I left as my mind went into over drive. She mentioned they wouldn’t be able to confirm any issues until the bloods had been taken, so I then fixated on that thinking she hadn’t told me because she wasn’t “allowed”.

Thank you all once again!
