I feel like a real beginner and would like to do some reading about general baby stuff. Does anyone have any suggestions, ideally avoiding the fluffy, patronising stuff or anything too funny or niche. Something with a babies for dummies vibe. Any ideas of what you’ve found useful gratefully received!

Hi I bought the attached book - also a first time mum and I prefer books to online. I’ve only skim read bits of this so far as I’m only 25 weeks but I’ve found it really useful it has lists of essential items etc as well as guides for feeding, changing and sleeping that I’ve found interesting and helpful! There’s also a book called Your Baby week by week that tells you what to expect in weeks after baby is born.

What mothers do especially when it looks like nothing by Naomi Stadlen was the most important baby book I read.

Thank you! I’m going to have a look at both these

Name changed as I have a slight vested interest but I hear good things about this:

I honestly believe that reading french children don't throw food is the reason that I had a baby who slept through the night from 9 weeks old and has ever since. Everyone should read it!

My husband read the expectant dad's hand guide and that was much more informative than so many books aimed at women.

Your baby week by week is also really useful.

My husband read the danish way of parenting, well, audible read it to him! I read baby led breastfeeding. Absolutely recommend both!
