Vests/bodysuits

I'm looking to buy some plain white vests/bodysuits from M&S for under sleepsuits. They do sleeveless and short sleeves? Is one better than the other?? As a FTM I find baby clothes baffling!

Ftm too!
I've found the short sleeved ones best as if baby is sick or poop explosion (sorry, it happens 😂) the neck of the sleeved ones are actually designed to be wider and stretch over babies body rather than have to be taken over babies head. Sleeves ones don't give that option. Other than that a vest is a vest, so personally preference 😊
Good luck with your little one!

Mommabear20 · 21/08/2020 10:25

Sleeveless* ones don't give that option!

firstimemamma · 21/08/2020 10:29

I'd go for short sleeved. Also they don't wear them for long and often they get ruined so I wouldn't buy from somewhere expensive like m and s but i guess we all have different budgets! Smile

Raindrop87 · 21/08/2020 10:51

Where would you recommend getting them from? It's just a white vest after all so I don't really mind so if somewhere is better value for good quality then great!

Next do some nice packs

theruffles · 21/08/2020 10:54

Sainsburys and Asda do good quality baby clothes and they are affordable. M&S are brilliant quality and very soft. I've also never had a problem with Primark basic baby vests. There's also Next and John Lewis if you want something in line with M&S quality/feel but again, a little more expensive.

FTM too and finding clothes baffling! I have bought 0-1 and 0-3 sleep suits and vests mainly - only about 8 of each and not even sure that's enough?! Also - do you take them places in a sleep suit?! Or is that like taking them out in pyjamas?! 😂 I'm so overwhelmed! I haven't bought any outfits yet. I'm following this feed!! Thanks for posting OP

Raindrop87 · 21/08/2020 11:24

@kidsareok I've had the same thought about whether that's like taking them places in their pyjamas?? Also do you have different day and night ones and how many? I'm trying to get a mix of newborn, 1 month and 0-3 to try and cover all bases!

I’ve just ordered a 5pack of white newborn short sleeved vests from Matalan for £5.50

Spark27 · 21/08/2020 11:27

Short sleeved vests are easier under a babygro. Otherwise you end up in a long sleeve under long sleeve faff where it all bunches up. x

You can take them places in a sleepsuit :) when they're all new you want them to be comfy so a sleepsuit or a vest/leggings/cardigan (depending on the weather) is the best way to go. Outfits are cute but often they can be a bit of a faff to get a newborn/small baby into and only really useful for occasions or nice photos.

My DD was born in the summer so she wore short sleeve all-in-one rompers or a short sleeve vest with leggings with feet in, as well as sleepsuits. I had the same thought about whether it was taking her out in her pyjamas but it's completely fine!

firstimemamma · 21/08/2020 13:23

I used Sainsbury's but to be honest got given a huge bag of second hand bits and also got bought lots of baby clothes as gifts once he was born.

Ds lived in sleep suits and / or vests 24/7 until he was around 9 or 10 months old as I just felt like from his point of view it was the comfiest and nicest thing and from mine it was quick and easy! Everyone is different though, my friend had her baby boy in proper outfits from a month old. You'll find your own way of doing things.

sqirrelfriends · 21/08/2020 13:35

We did mainly short sleeved and DS wore layers. You'll probably want a decent stock of them and expect them to get ruined with explosive poops. I bought a load of cheap Primark ones as DS was ruining all the lovely JL ones I bought, I kept the nicer ones for going out.

Aldi and Lidl often do them in their baby events. Very nice and soft and mostly organic cotton.

Pea1984 · 21/08/2020 14:04

I’ve bought some really cheap white vests from Primark for £2.30 for a pack of 3. Didn’t expect them to be as soft and thick as they are and will get more in bigger sizes.

Raindrop87 · 21/08/2020 15:38

That's for all the advice, sounds like I'll be going for the short sleeved ones. How many vests of each size would you recommend?

sqirrelfriends · 21/08/2020 15:58

How often do you/will you do washing? We did every 2-3 days and had 5 to start, then got another 10 or so from Primark and still had days where we ran low.

FizzingWhizzbee123 · 21/08/2020 16:41

We used short sleeved and some long sleeved over winter. I don’t think I ever used sleeveless. For basic white vests, the Primark ones are just fine. Nice and soft, actually.

polkadotx · 21/08/2020 16:44

I've got short sleeved and long sleeve and sleeveless. I only use the sleeveless when she's wearing a sleeveless dress so you don't see the vest but always pair it with a cardigan etc for warmth. Short sleeve during the day and long sleeve at night as she has sleeveless sleeping bags. X

Raindrop87 · 21/08/2020 16:45

We've got sleeveless sleeping bags too but I thought you always put a sleepsuit on over a vest?

OP posts:
sqirrelfriends · 21/08/2020 17:02

@Raindrop87 not always, you can wear sleep suits without vests too, It depends on how warm it is and what else they're wearing.

DS was summer born so basically lived in vests while it was hot and sleepsuits on warm days. Once it started getting chilly I put both on. Basically the advice is to put them in as many layers as you would be comfortable wearing.

polkadotx · 21/08/2020 17:19

Usually yes she wears a grow but when it's hot she's in a vest only in her sleeping bags and I'm cautious of the drop in temp during the night even when it's hot so a long sleeve just keeps her arms warm xx
