Hey ladies.
Well, I got a surprise BFP yesterday and I'm still kinda in shock as it wasn't expected.
I'm also 40 and had my last child over 9 years ago.
Has much changed in maternity services in 9 years?!
Feeling really clueless at the mo so any info would be amazing xx

@CrazyFooLady congratulations! I am 37 and gave a 14yr and 16yr old. I am finding that quite a lot of things are different with maternity but mainly impacted by Covid and I’ve been put under a consultant and have to have 4weekly growth scans but they say only because I booked in late and had my dating scan at 18weeks so they can’t be accurate on dates. Had 4 scans so far and all match my dates but least I know baby growing well.

I had a moment of feeling down due to feeling like they think my body must be past it at 37 but then I look around and there seems to be more women having babies later so I’m not too bothered now. I have a friend who just having her first she 37.

Thank u!
My kids are 13, 10 and 9. I know the oldest will not be impressed when I tell them I'm pregnant, sounds odd even saying it.
At the mo, it's just secret glances between me and my OH and me trying not to vom 😂😂
Should be an interesting looking baby tho as I'm English but he is half German and half Indian, according to my dates I'm 4 weeks and 2 days and I'm feeling pretty sicky x

Hi ladies I don't have any previous experience to compare but I'm 42, got BFP last week 1st baby xx

CrazyFooLady · 20/08/2020 18:04

Congratulations @Furbabymum15
Are u worried about being an older mum?!
My own mum thinks I'm going to miscarry as she did when she was 46 🙄
Just seems that I can't get slightly excited about it without her putting a downer on everything x

@Crazyfoolady yes I'm very anxious I had 2 previous missed miscarriages most recent in May so I'm just hoping for something good now.
It's hard isn't it, my mum thinks I'm stark raving mad but she doesn't say anything lol

CrazyFooLady · 20/08/2020 19:46

@Furbabymum15 u and me both, it was definitely a surprise to say the least as my OH has issues in that area (one drunken night later lol)
But I suppose if u look at it, a lot of women have babies in their 40's now.
Wish the nausea would do one tho, I'm sure I never had it this bad so early on x

CrazyFooLady · 20/08/2020 20:00

Hi there and congrats!

I had my first (and only!) pregnancy at 40/41. All was fine, though I confess that if I had my time over again I would definitely not have left it so late!

I'd say the main worries for me were:

  1. HCPs flipping out constantly about all the things that could go wrong and consequently making me v anxious. I felt very pressured into having several tests which I didn't really want. I wasn't in the UK though so this may not be the same here.
  2. Genuine dilemma about amniocentesis or not. Didn't have it in the end.
  3. Weight gain. Oh boy! It goes on so fast and comes off so much slower (or not at all in my case) and things don't, um, stretch back like they used to!
  4. God I wish someone had told me how much sitting on the floor is involved when you have a baby/toddler. Mummy & me groups and middle-aged knees are a BAD combination! Confused

What you have, which I didn't have, is lovely older DC who will ADORE their baby sibling and be like extra parents to him/her when they're older teens. My two SILs have family setups like this and those older kids are just amazing with the little ones (or were; they're adults now) and are going to be fantastic parents themselves one day as a result. My DS loves having older cousins as well and really looks up to them.

Hope all goes well for you.

Morning everyone and congratulations!! I’m 40 and 6 weeks today. My DS is 13 in 4 weeks and my DD is 9. I’ve been backwards and forwards to EPAU due to history, I’ve got another scan a week today. Have nausea which is cured by eating carbs Grin and I’m very tired, also get really dizzy when I get up from sitting. Here’s to our 2021 babies!!
