So I went today for scan they are bringing me back for a scan in 2 weeks but I'm 36 wks today and baby just below 97th centile
Efw 3521.0g which is already 7.7lb isn't it.... Baby just had a growth spurt so checking for gestational diabetes... But surely 2 weeks time this baby will be huge!!

I was ment to be given date for induction today due to high bp..... But no consultant available hence why they are bringing me back in two weeks now..... Midwidlfe was like oh this is now increased risk of still birth shoulder dystostia..... 🙄

On average in those last few weeks, baby puts in half a lb each week. So, if we were to believe that scan to be wholly accurate (which they're not), baby would be:

7lb 15oz by week 37
8lb 7oz by week 38
8lb 15oz by week 39
9lb 7oz by week 40
9lb 15oz by week 41

My DD is 8 weeks. She was 9lb 15oz. I had a home birth and had absolutely zero intervention.

If this is your first one, you will be smaller but your pelvis has widened.

Do not be bullied into doing something you don't want to do. Try and compromise. Scans are notoriously inaccurate for judging sizes.

Giving birth on all fours can widen your pelvis by 30%, for instance. That's a huge difference.

So this is number 4... Suprise number 4 😍 my last baby was 8.14and just gas and air but definitely did not want to come down ended up with Dr straddling me pushing on my bump 🙄.....
I'm open to there advice but just concerned with all the ifs n buts thrown at me today 🙁

The scans are not always accurate and for some who were told to expect a huge baby ended up with a small one. In my case 'big' baby was missed until I was already over due and they told me the estimated 10lb 6...I was anxious after a previous loss and went for elective section at 12 days over due and he was 11lb 4......

Willow4987 · 19/08/2020 19:29

The scan for me was fairly accurate both times but it depends so much on who’s doing it and their accuracy

I wouldn’t let it worry you too much (easier said than done) until you’ve spoken to the consultant. You can discuss all your options then

You don’t have to accept induction if you don’t want, you could ask for a c section if worried or wait for it to start naturally as well. It’s your choice.

Please don't worry too much. Im sure you will be getting monitored and if they think your baby is going to be too big, they will bring you on earlier as they don't want to risk the complications.

My daughter was measured at 36 weeks and she was 9lb4oz, I delivered her at 37 weeks and she was 10lb. She had been putting 1lb a week on consecutively. If they had left me to term she was expected at 13lb. Xx

👆🏼👆🏼left me to due date not term 🙄👆🏼👆🏼

Congratulations on your new arrival? Was that your first baby? Did you require any stitches or anything?

My niece was told her baby was huge and it turned out he weighed 7lbs 14oz. They don’t always get it right.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 19/08/2020 20:46

I was told c.36 weeks my baby was c7lbs- 40+4 she was born weight 6lbs 6.....

Chocolate4me · 19/08/2020 21:03

I was told my first would be 8 pounds + but he was 6.8.... And with my other pregnancies I asked the consultant about big babies and giving birth and she didn't seem concerned at all. My 8 pounds 6 baby was easier to birth, might have been because he was my 3rd, but the head is supposed to grow to the correct size of the mother's pelvis. So I always worry about the head circumference over the overall growth centile.
My baby this time is on the 90 something centile, I have gestational diabetes so they will induce on my due date but I think this is over placenta deterioration issues with GD, as opposed to size. Be interested to see what she is born at centile wise as I haven't been gaining much weight, and none of my boys were over the 75th centiles at birth. I'd take it with a pinch of salt

Thank you @scotgal99 Grin

She was my second.

No stitches. Perineal tear that healed by itself within 6 weeks.
