I had an interesting (but lovely) incident at the weekend and I was curious as to other people's experiences :)

So DH and I treated ourselves to a fancy afternoon tea and as I'm veggie, mine was quite cheese-centric. Without a menu to hand for reference, I needed to double check what type of cheese one of the sandwiches was using - partly for pregnancy purposes and partly because I'm just fussy! :D

Me: Would it be possible to find out what the cheese in this sandwich is please? I have to be careful with cheese at the moment.
Waitress (an older lady): Oh, are you allergic?
Me: Noooo.... gives Significant Look
Waitress: Oh! big smile I'll just check for you...

When she came back to confirm it was a 'safe' cheese :) she made a happy/excited sort of noise at me and two sets of 'fingers crossed' gestures, which I thought was lovely :)

DH completely oblivious to the entire thing of course Grin Also none of our family and only two of our friends know as we are only just under 8 weeks in, so it's a bit weird that a total stranger knows and no one else does!

I blurted our i was having twins in the spar shop on holiday 🤣 only husband knew at that point - sometimes it's just nice to have someone know even if they are a complete stranger as it makes it feel real then x

The hour I found out. To the pizza delivery guy. (I was still bouncing with excitement of just finding out)

At about six/seven weeks - the blood donation people called me to try and get me to make an appointment so I told the nice man on the phone that I wasn't allowed to donate at the moment due to being pregnant. He was lovely, said congratulations and made a note of it on my record so no-one else would call me until February 2021, when I will become eligible to donate again! Grin

I was six months pregnant and I'm very tall so I think I just looked overweight as opposed to pregnant. I was away for the weekend and looking for an outfit for a christening. I told the woman I was pregnant and going to get bigger when trying on dresses.

After I told my mum and everyone close. I was speaking to a contractor that my company is a client of on the phone, they mentioned they'd like to arrange training (contractor frequently does) and a cheese/wine evening. I said without thinking "That would be great for the rest of the team" so the contractor asked me and I told her.

I had to tell some of my patients very early on as I was really nauseous and didn’t want them to think I was hungover or something!

My situation was a little different but went for a meal with friends a couple of days after I found it, I was only about 5 weeks so hadn't said anything to anyone. I ordered a mocktail (everyone else was having wine/spirits so hadn't paid particular attention to the cocktail names) I ordered without issue and everyone assumed it was an alcoholic cocktail until the waiter came over with it and very loudly made a point of asking if I was the driver and why I wasn't getting to drink when everyone else was!! My secret was definitely out after that!!

M&S bra advisor knew before any friends or family as my boobs expanded rapidly in 1st Tri and I urgently needed some new bras!

The supermarkets where I live had an 'elderly, vulnerable and pregnant' hour during lockdown. I had to show my ultrasound to the security guard as I wasn't showing at this point and he was much more excited than I expected!

Mines was a meal out at a restaurant at 6 weeks pregnant... I Ordered a soup for starter and a steak for meal which I was looking forward too but once it came I felt so ill and totally went off eating anything.soup I got away with not eating but once The steak came, it looked amazing but I had to just sit there sipping water while rest of my family (who knew) ate away. The waiter came over worried that something was wrong with the as it was now the second course untouched, I had to just blurt our that I was suffering from morning sickness that seemed to last all day. They were lovely and offered to pack my meals up and offered me ice cream instead to try :)

I moved a massive bag of compost into my trolley at b&q and it seemed to pull a muscle in my tummy and really worried me. So I had to ask the lady on the checkout if someone could help me get it into the car because I was pregnant and it had done something strange to my stomach! I was only about 6 weeks and only DH knew at that point.

Valentine’s Day in a restaurant when I had to apologise to the poor waitress as I bolted out of the booth ready to vom at the smell of my husband’s prawns 🤢. I think she was new and thought she had done something to upset me. I’dve been about 9 weeks then.

Serendipper · 19/08/2020 17:12

I went to a wedding a few days after finding out with my son. starter was pâté, main was rare steak and dessert was mousse so I basically couldn’t eat any of it. I had to ask a waitress if there was any way they could cook my steak a bit longer so I could eat something

The receptionist on the phone for my booking in appointment. She was the only person that knew apart from DH, and genuinely seemed as happy for me as someone who knew me would be.

I told my optometrist at my eye test last week. It’s nice to be able to openly tell people 😂 I’m 12 weeks

At about 5 weeks when the hospital rang to rearrange my first appointment with the fertility clinic... “Erm, well you won’t believe it but...” Funny how things work out!

I burst into tears at Waterloo station when on my way home from work. There had been an incident. Trains weren't running, concourse was heaving with people and I didn't know what to do. A very kind woman held my hand for a few minutes and helped me and that wonderful gesture has stayed with me for 20 years.
