Hi all

Im a bit stuck what to do i am 13 and half wks, had a private scan at 10 weeks and my dating one at 13 both scans all well, I am a very anxious person and worry over any cramp or twinge I get, I am 6 wks away from 20 week scan, I honestly dont think I can wait that long to find out if everything still ok, I know midwife wont listen to HB by then or so im told and I am not buying a doppler, is there much point booking 16 wk scan to settle my worries? But then after 20 week scan I wont have another one so will spend all that time worrying to I feel its because I can't feel any movement yet, this is first successful pregnancy after a MC hence my worries, did anyone else book 16 wk scan? I am not finding out sex yet and not sure if i will at 20 wk scan either, I am just struggling to cope with anxiety between scans if im honest always worried im going to lose it...x

I'm not sure anyone can answer this for you 😕 If you have the money to spare and feel that it would reassure you then go for it I guess. If you feel you can wait and would rather save the money then wait. It's up to you, it's your money! Either way won't make a difference to how your baby is doing in there! But if you feel it'll lessen your anxiety then it may be worth it 🤷🏼‍♀️

Scans aside, you're very unlikely to lose a baby if all is well at the 12 week scan. I'm sure baby will be just fine 😊

I had a 16 week scan because my appointments are only by phone and kept getting pushed back. Also, DH wanted to see the baby.

It was an extremely positive experience and more informative than the nhs scans. But was a nice to have rather than a must have.

We had it because I've had 4mcs previously and because of where my placenta is, I can't always feel the baby wiggle. So I was slightly worried. I've also had problems bonding with this pregnancy so wanted to feel more connected to it too.

Midwife used the Doppler at my 16 week appointment.

@Annasarahlou I understand how you’re feeling. I had extra scans in the early stages of pregnancy including one at 16 weeks. I have anxiety and it was much worse in the earlier days of pregnancy about loosing the baby. Now at 32 weeks I still worry but the baby’s movements are reassuring to me - I do kick counts and regularly monitor the pattern as it helps me a lot. I’ve been feeling them from about 18 weeks. I’m sure once you can feel you baby it’ll get a lot easier. Like someone else has said, a good 12 week scan is a really positive sign xx

@Hatscats was that recently? Mine will only do phone appointments. They've told me they need to do a blood pressure and urine check at my 16 weeks but can't explain how I do that over the phone…

Hatscats · 19/08/2020 08:07

Yep but all of mine have been face to face through Covid - hopefully they’ll change that policy soon in your area as there’s no way you can do them over the phone!

theresaplaceforus · 19/08/2020 08:52

@Hatscats my 16 week was over the phone, I bought my own BP machine for peace of mind. I don’t think it’s standard practice to use a Doppler until 24 week check anyway. Since 24 weeks mine have been face to face - currently 32.

bluemoon2468 · 19/08/2020 09:43

@Hatscats I wasn't seen face to face in my pregnancy until my 28 week midwife appt (other than scans) - 8 and 16 week appts were conducted over the phone and 24 week was just cancelled!

I think the best thing would be to talk to your midwife about your anxiety and get some support for that.

A scan will only put your mind at rest for a short time before that anxiety will be back. I think you recognise that a scan won't solve the issue at hand here.

AintOverUntilTheCatLadySings · 19/08/2020 16:27

My 16 week scan has been cancelled, again. I'll be 19 weeks when I finally get seen (spoken to, as its on the phone). Not great practice, as I'm still under the 'care' of the recurring miscarriage clinic
