Anterior placenta questions

Hi. I'm really hoping to get some advice from anyone who has experienced both a posterior and anterior placenta.
I am expecting DC4 and have an anterior placenta. I am 17+6 and experiencing the odd kick and flutters but not regular yet. (Maybe every other day).
My questions is, once I do start to feel regular movement will it get stronger like with a posterior placenta?
How do you count the kicks? Same way? I have other medical issues which increase risk of placenta failure and stillbirth so I am really worried I'll miss something by putting it down to the anterior placenta (or I'll be in hospital continually for monitoring)

Any experience would be very gratefully received.

@Grumpy19 hi im only a ftm but I do have an anterior placenta, although it is low lying, and im now 29 weeks. I felt first kicks around 19 weeks. They weren't very frequent at first but then by about 21 weeks I felt something everyday morning and evening.
And in answer to your question yes, they do get stronger and bigger. And I now mostly feel baby wriggling and rolling, but do still get the odd strong kick that jolts my whole body!

Thanks @biscuit13 that is reassuring to know you still feel daily movements. Guess I need to give it a few more weeks.
It's just odd as with my DC3 I felt movement from 14 weeks.

I had an anterior placenta with DD my third pregnancy and I was in for traces regularly because I couldn't feel movements. She was fine and 28 yesterday.

@Grumpy19 oh wow really! Thats amazing!
Yeah i did go in last week on Thursday because I hadn't felt baby move all morning, it was all fine, was just being lazy haha, soon started jumping about with the monitor on.
They do say though even with anterior placenta if you don't feel movements or they feel different go and get checked, don't just assume its because of the placenta. But i honestly feel baby moving so much day to day, as for a pattern and counting, im actually not too sure but I go on when I last felt baby, its usually no more than a couple of hours while baby is quiet, and then it'll be wriggling again, yesterday was contant all evening!
But how exciting for you! Wont be long before you're getting some decent kicks and punches.

Thank you. I think I'll just have to be on the cautious side when it comes to any reduction in movement later on (given my high risk) but I'm very pleased and excited to hear that I will still be getting to feel those kicks at some point soon!
Even though this is DC4 the wonder and excitement of it all is just as intense!

What I would say is dont assume that any reduction in movements is down to the anterior placenta. Once you get to 24 weeks, and more towards 28 weeks baby should move everyday and still have a pattern that you'll get to know, any change in that needs to be checked.

I had an anterior placenta with DD and did feel regular movements but not till after 20 weeks. I never got the extreme foot sticking out of belly type kicks and DH struggled to feel much, but there were strong movements I could feel inside and recognise patterns/tell when something was different.

Grumpy19 · 18/08/2020 13:22

Thanks @Sanch1 that is what I thought but was worrying about. Need to feel confident to say if I feel something is different and that I wont just be told it's just the placenta.

@Grumpy19 I have an anterior placenta, third pregnancy and not had this before. I first felt baby properly about 19 weeks, 24 weeks now and feel regular movements and can also now feel them on the outside every now and then.. not as strong as previous pregnancies but definitely getting stronger now.. such a relief as was horrible not feeling him as early as previous pregnancies xx

Hi! I’m a FTM with an anterior placenta. Now 23 weeks and feeling kicks every day. They’re definitely stronger than when I first started feeling them (at around 17/18 weeks). At first I wasn’t totally sure if that was what I was feeling but now they’re definitely noticeable kicks.

Grumpy19 · 18/08/2020 19:12

Thank you for the replies.
It's so unnerving not feeling the kicks as I have in previous pregnancies but I'm glad to hear it's not going to carry on throughout the whole pregnancy.
Feeling the kicks and movement is such a lovely part of pregnancy in my opinion and really helps me bond/ get my head around the fact there really is a tiny person in there!
