Newborns, Covid and family visiting....what are you doing?

What's everyone doing currently about letting family in to visit baby?

I'm 35 weeks and I have NO idea how to handle this. I've asked a midwife and they couldn't give me any guidance at all. I know some people are allowing anyone into the house, some are enforcing masks, some are not allowing anyone in....some are allowing people in but not to hold the baby...

What are you doing? And does anyone know if there is any official guidance?

We just got home from hospital the midwives said if we have visitors they should wash hands and be symptom free plus wearing a mask might be a good idea too
We have decided for now not to have visitors as I’m a bit worried about it I’m even worried what if the midwife brings coronavirus to the house when she visits

We stayed with family with a newborn (very long distance away and they wanted us to visit) but I know everyone is different. We washed hands but just the same amount as any newborn.

Officially the guidance will just be the same as everything else - its no different for babies i don't think. I.e. limits on how many people and households mixing, and employing social distancing.

Its not easy though, to be honest it will be whatever you feel comfortable and safe doing. Social distancing would obviously mean no one can have a cuddle if they aren't in your household. Everyone will have a different view I'm sure, so just make sure you're doing what makes you happy!

I’m going to let family and close friends visit, as long as they’re symptom free obviously. I consider the risk to be low (children not very susceptible, trust family to social distance, live in a very low-prevalence area). That may change if there is a surge here etc but at the moment it wouldn’t worry me.

I'm 34 weeks and also still feeling unsure about what we are going to do.
My partner's parents live 4 hours away so can't just pop for a socially distanced visit. So we plan that they will self isolate for 2 weeks after baby is born (they are already being pretty careful, so already feel comfortable they are low risk) and then come and stay with us and we can all just socialise in our house without needing extra protection. I haven't spoken with my family or our friends about it yet, but I think unless people can isolate for 2 weeks then it will just be outdoor, socially distanced visits for the first little while (exactly when we'll stop I'm not sure). I think how we approach it will depend on how case rates change in the coming weeks/months too. Such an uncertain time to being having a baby.

The advice I got from my from my MW was minimal visitors and social distancing needed to be observed, as in, no holding the baby, no hugs etc. I'm due any day now and DH and I still haven't decided what we're going to do when people ask to visit...

The government has made this easy for us as we are in the north west so can't have visitors and can't visit others. My mum and dad saw her briefly from the drive with us in the doorway when they dropped off some bits relatives had bought us.

In July we had my parents for a social distanced tea and cake afternoon and my partners parents visited for a weekend after socially isolating for 14 days. I would probably slow this now we have our little one provided it is permitted within the rules
