Burnt tummy!

Sounds so stupid but I’ve just burnt my 31 weeks pregnant tummy on my bloody hob. I have peeled the skin, not a massive amount but it stings! My placenta is at the front. It’s not a big enough burn to go to hospital but it won’t affect my placenta will it?

Call your midwife - the 247 line is there for this!

It won't affect your placenta directly, but if it gets infected that could cause problems so best to get it seen to and dressed properly. Have you put ice on it?

247 line? Never heard of this?
Yes got ice on it. It’s not that bad, seems I’ve just taken the surface of my skin off (wouldn’t need dressing) just concerned about placenta.
Thanks

Have you been given an app to use that has all your appointment etc on it? As the 24/7 midwife line is on there.
I though the app was country-wide as nhs, maybe it's not then, but it should be!

A burn on your stomach is no more dangerous than one on your arm, if you're sure you don't need medical attention for the burn itself then you don't have to worry.

fedupandlookingforchange · 16/08/2020 17:20

I would call the midwives, in our area it labour ward you call out of hours, the phone number should be on your green notes.
I almost did the same quite a few times.

Unless you’re worried it’s going to get infected or has burnt through multiple layers of skin, I can’t see how it would effect baby anymore than a burn on any other part of your body x

Tippytaps · 16/08/2020 17:37

I am not medical and have no experience of this sort of thing so I can’t advise directly. I do know it is better to be safe than sorry and you are clearly worried about it so trust your instincts and get the advice of your GP or midwife.

LimpidPools · 16/08/2020 17:42

You haven't cooked your placenta OP.

You've burnt the surface layer. The heat has not gone deeper. So long as it heals properly without getting infected, your only problem is that it probably really hurts!

Thanks everyone!
The stinging has stopped now - just think cos I’ve been so careful and worried all this pregnancy and placenta being at the front worried I’ve caused it some damage.

Very interested in this app though, I haven’t even been given a contact number for my midwife. She literally says any problems, call my local maternity/assessment unit...
