8 week scan

So I am 7+5 today with my first and am having an early scan at WTTW next Sunday at 8+5. Despite having multiple VERY positive pregnancy tests and on and off symptoms over the past month, I feel like a fraud going to this scan and am worried they'll tell me the whole thing is made up! When I remind myself that I'm definitely pregnant, I worry that they'll find something wrong and then go down that rabbit hole!

Sorry for the brain dump!!
Has anyone else had this imposter syndrome and what should I expect at the scan at this stage - abdominal or internal? What should I realistically expect to see?

Thanks ladies 😊

Oh my gosh @alessandra27 ...ME!
I have an early scan on 29th when I’m 7+3 and I’m so excited but terrified that they will tell me either something bad or that I was never pregnant in the first place.
It’s such a horrid feeling to have and to try and shift.
I’m just taking every day leading up to it as it comes and trying to be positive.
I’m pregnant but I still don’t believe I am pregnant. Not until I’ve seen the evidence!

It's an awful feeling isn't it! This first trimester malarkey is such a rollercoaster of emotions, shock and happiness at first and then constant worry and doubt! I'm such a mixture of terrified and looking forward to this scan, hopefully we can relax a little afterwards!

I hear you OP! Before my 12 week scan I couldn’t shake the feeling that I was going to turn up and be told ‘there’s nothing there, you were never pregnant’. Didn’t help that I only ever took one test then read a thread on here where most posters had taken multiples and were surprised I had only taken one. I was suddenly half sure I had misread it and the whole thing was a fantasy in my head!

Now 23 weeks and being kicked repeatedly by a very wriggly baby, so all well so far. Good luck for the scan - mine was a lovely experience and made it all feel so much more real.

That's really lovely to hear and definitely reassuring 😊 fingers crossed that I'll have a wriggly baby in my tum in a few months!

I don’t think it felt “real” until I went for an early scan at WTTW until I seen baby jumping about inside me!

Hi @alessandra27. I went to WTTP too, at 8+1. Which one are you going to? I had no symptoms at all, and was worried the pregnancy therefore hadn't stuck, hence booking an early scan.

They were friendly, but also made it very clear this was a very serious procedure. They made me confirm about 4 times that I was happy for the scan to be done vaginally, and also confirmed that they would be silent for the duration of the scan (so if they found something wrong, I wouldn't be worried if they suddenly went quiet!) I actually liked their methodical and no nonsense approach. She pointed out the babies heartbeat and confirmed it was a normal looking pregnancy.

There was no bells and whistles, no "congratulations your baby looks great!" , but i didn't need that. I just wanted to confirm there was a heartbeat.

All the above makes me think they won't care if you aren't pregnant. (I'm sure you are!) because firstly you've paid them £50 and secondly they are so deadpan, they won't do anything to make you feel awkward about it.

Hope all goes well, and keep us posted (all

Thanks Kitten, that was really thorough and useful to know. It's the unknown that scares me so knowledge is power 👍🏼

You're welcome. Hope all goes well. That could have been my experience and it might be different in your branch. As long as you're not expecting jumping and dancing and congratulations, you'll be fine. Although it's private I didn't find it was extra "special" but as I said, all I needed to know was that there was a heartbeat and everything was "normal". Hope all goes well for you!

Hello ladies just to update you, had the scan yesterday and everything was perfect! Baby was like a little bear with arms and legs waving around and heart beating strong, it was magical and I'm so relieved and happy. Was so worth having the early scan for peace of minds. Thanks again for the kind words :)
