Weight gain...help me!

Before anyone says a big fat no or that I should ask my midwife; I have an appointment next week so will ask then but...

I'm currently 24 weeks with dc2 and have put on so much more weight this time around, really starting to panic! Does anyone have any tips, ideas, suggestions that might be helpful to help minimise any further gain for me? I know baby will grow more now so I guess I'm looking for 'safe' diet ideas/calories to manage my weight.

Thanks in advance for any help, it's really bc appreciated.

If you are overweight, you do not need extra calories to have a healthy pregnancy. Even if at an ideal size, a woman should not consume too many more calories than normally needed to maintain their weight.

Choose nutrient dense foods and stay with 1,200 to 1,400 calories. Hopefully, you will be able to lose a good amount of weight this way before the baby is born.

Do you exercise? What's your day like? Any chance you can start light walks, maybe uphill a bit?

What you eat is also important, as is when you eat. Can you have healthy food readily available when you get a craving (apple bit, carrot sticks, maybe cucumber...). Depends on what you normally eat.

Have you changed your eating habits since you got pregnant? You should be eating as normal during 1st and 2nd trimester. Eating for two is just a myth.

I found it easier to just buy healthy stuff. If there are no crisps in the house, my only choice is to snack on fruit and veg.. Also trying to do more exercise to keep weight in check, but I get Braxton Hicks when I do anything vaguely strenuous, so a bit limited on the exercise front. Trying to walk everywhere as much as I can.

I'd keep a food diary for a few days and see what you're eating. I'm terrible for snacking while making my eldest's dinner so I'm trying to be mindful of that. Have healthy snacks available and drink plenty of water. Agree re exercise, I'm trying to do a decent walk every day.

Thanks all for your help and suggestions, nothing I didn't really know but sometimes you just need others you say it to you.
Tonight's job is to make a week's menu including meals and snacks so I can really keep a track of what I'm eating.
Thanks again!

It may not necessarily be a problem - do talk to your mw and go through starting weight and actual weight gained to date, I gained much more with one pregnancy than the other and the weight dropped off very fast after, a lot of it turned out to be fluid.

I certainly panicked about weight during pregnancy so by all means eat more fruit and vegetables and less crisps if you are eating that but it’s not a time to worry unduly about weight.
