Anyone got any tips on the rather embarassing subject of hemorroids? At 34 weeks and they're starting to get really uncomfy....

oh I can really sympathise! I got them REALLY badly after my dd was born 2.8 years ago, even the midwife proclaimed them to be 'horrific'. They've never really gone away properly and now I am pregnant again (23 wks) they are rearing their ugly head(s)! again. I also have the twin joy of piles with constipation. I am trying to control it all with chaging my diet, but have had to resort to germoloid cream to shrink them a bit. Your doctor should be able to tell you what you can take in pregnancy.

Unfortunately it's the doctor I'm worried about asking, as had them really badly after last birth (bled for weeks after each time went to loo even with help of cream)and he insisted in an examination, which I thought was rather unneccessary as I'd have thought it was blatently obvious that that was the reason after childbirth!

Can you just go to a pharmacist instead? Unlikely that they'll ask for a peek!

I guess so. I do have the feeling though that whatever treatment I go for, they're here to stay until after the birth. Is that right? I guess it's all to do with added weight pressing on that area. It's a bit of a depressing thought! But I'll try cream to at least relieve the pain.

I was in the same postion as you when preggers and also too embarrased to go to doctor in case he wanted to have a look...eughh!

In the end I rang the maternity hospital where I went for my check-ups, they told me to call in (which I did) and they gave me cream there and then for them (no exam or anything - they just took my word for it!...don't think they'd have relished the thought of having a butchers either...)

That's a good idea actually, and the maternity where we live is full of really fab and lovely midwives.

Also, I found that by ringing them first, I could get my embarrassment out over the phone too (they weren't in the slightest bit fazed by my call..must happen all the time I imagine)...
