Bought this from Co Op ..
I know soft cheese is ok but I can’t for the life of me find on here is it’s pasteurised or unpasteurised milk used.
Anyone know?

it would have to say on it if it was unpasteurised so yes I'd eat it.

Zippy1510 · 13/08/2020 18:50

Pretty much all supermarket cheeses are pasteurised. It will be fine.

LexiM · 13/08/2020 18:51

I would say its pasturised as the majority of mainstream cheese processed is. It tends to be more artisan individual cheese that isn't. I presume it doesnt say on the back on the ingredients?

dementedpixie · 13/08/2020 18:52

Can you take a picture of the back?

SkylinesTurnstiles · 13/08/2020 18:57

Here’s the back .. there’s every chance I’m being dim! :)

I ate lots of this during second pregnancy! First pregnancy went right off garlic!

ThanksItHasPockets · 13/08/2020 19:30

It would say if it were unpasteurised. Crack on 😊

Chicken123 · 13/08/2020 20:07

This unpasteurised/pasteurised thing is confusing me as well as everything else you can’t eat when pregnant.
I haven’t touched mayo since finding out I’m pregnant ( I LOOOOVE mayo), because it said online that mayo is a no go, along with smoked salmon, tuna, soft cheeses like Brie etc? What can I and can’t I eat I’m so confused as I’ve seen some women on here with their cravings being things I thought you deffo couldn’t touch whilst pregnant because of the infections they could cause.
This whole pregnancy malarkey is so confusing x

dementedpixie · 13/08/2020 20:09

Shop bought mayo is fine as it will pasteurised
Smoked salmon fine
Tuna fine although there are limits - something like 4 tins a week
Brie is ok if cooked as are other soft mould ripened or blue cheeses

marauder1994 · 13/08/2020 20:16

I've eaten it multiple times this pregnancy and I'm 30+4! Try not to stress Xx

Hatscats · 13/08/2020 20:36

Yes it’s fine. The only cheese you need to avoid is soft cheese with a white rind, like brie, Camembert, or soft blue, like saint agur (my fave) or Gorgonzola. I believe even hard cheese is fine unpasteurised, such as Parmesan? Stilton is fine. I only read the NHS advice, as google will tell you every food is unsuitable!

dementedpixie · 13/08/2020 20:39

You dont have to avoid those cheeses as you can eat them if cooked
Hard unpasteurised cheese is ok as it has a low moisture content

Strawberries4days · 13/08/2020 22:34

Helmans do pasteurised mayonnaise @Chicken123 you just need to read the back of the bottle to double check. But some of the flavours like helmans garlic mayo or helmans chilli mayo doesn't say pasteurised so I avoid them just incase!

dementedpixie · 13/08/2020 22:48

Anything in a jar/squeezy bottle on the shelf will be pasteurised as that's what makes them long life and able to be kept at room temperature in the shop.

UrsulaSings · 14/08/2020 00:08

That looks delicious. Bet it's nice on crackers or toast! Gonna have to get some of that next shop!

Footle · 14/08/2020 06:11

@SkylinesTurnstiles , there's a Freephone number on that label. Why not ring it?

Wecandothis99 · 14/08/2020 06:23

Oh I even had a little bite of unpasteurised yesterday so i probably shouldn't give my advice

theresaplaceforus · 14/08/2020 07:34

I’m 31 weeks and I’ve eaten soft cheese a handful of times. Pretty sure all supermarket is pasteurised.

zippityzip · 14/08/2020 07:50

Currently pregnant and I would get that in my face in a heart beat 👍🏻

ThanksItHasPockets · 14/08/2020 08:03

Honestly, unpasteurised cream cheese is a pretty niche product and it’s quite difficult to get hold of except at specialist delis or direct from the creamery. You certainly won’t find it in the supermarket.

Nowisthemonthofmaying · 14/08/2020 08:11

People need to stop checking Web pages from outside the UK! Pasteurised is pretty much irrelevant according to the NHS website - cream cheeses and hard cheeses (even blue unpasteurised) are fine, soft cheeses with a rind, like brie, are not (even if they're pasteurised).

Roule is a cream cheese so you're fine.

Mayo etc is fine as long as it's made with British lion-mark eggs. You can eat raw eggs as long as they have this mark (which all British eggs should have) - just not raw egg from eg your neighbour's bantams.

ThanksItHasPockets · 14/08/2020 08:30

You are right about hard cheese and soft cheese with rind @Nowisthemonthofmaying but pasteurisation is relevant for other soft cheeses. NHS advises pregnant women not to eat unpasteurised feta, ricotta etc.
