I am 31 weeks pregnant and still
Thinking of names. We don’t really want all the usual popular names like Olivia, Abigail etc

Hannah was on our list, it's lovely!

EhUp · 12/08/2020 08:34

I think Hannah is lovely but I would avoid if you happen to live in an area where people drop their aitches as it will inevitably get confused with Anna

Amy is nice but sounds a bit dated to my ears (very 90s) whereas Hannah is more timeless

daisypond · 12/08/2020 08:41

I don’t really. I think both are bland and dated. I wouldn’t describe either as pretty. Hannah is better than Amy, though. Anna is better than Hannah.

AuntieStella · 12/08/2020 08:43

Like both.

Prefer Hannah

Did you know there's a whole topic for musings about names?

I think Hannah is a really lovely name and quite timeless as it’s a biblical name. I’ve only ever encountered one, whilst I was at school myself and I’ve worked within education and with children for almost 20 years.

Every second person I know growing up was an Amy/Amie/Aimee and I really dislike the name.

PaundryLouder · 12/08/2020 08:46

Both very 80s/90s. More mum names than baby names now.

Dotinthecity · 12/08/2020 08:48

Hannah is lovely. I only know one, in her teens.

missyB1 · 12/08/2020 08:48

I think the fact that they aren’t popular now is what makes both names more attractive! I like them both but prefer Hannah.

NothingIsGoing2GetBetterItsNot · 12/08/2020 08:50

Hannah, definitely. I too have only ever met one in all my (40+) years and always liked the name. Amy to me = w(h)inehouse - not my favourite 'artist' - and our old pet! Grin

BuffaloCauliflower · 12/08/2020 08:53

A friend recently named her baby Hannah and I thought how lovely to hear it used. There are lots my age (early 30s) but haven’t heard it in a child since I was one. Pretty and classic.
Amy is fine but a bit blah and boring. Though I guess technically of the same category.

Wudgy · 12/08/2020 08:53

Love Hannah and amy

Cheetahfajita · 12/08/2020 08:59

No I don't think they are pretty names at all. Hannah is 'Annah here and Amy reminds me of the 80s.

LaTomatina · 12/08/2020 09:00

I like them both. Not overly popular right now (which is a good thing) but not 'look at me' different either. Personally I slightly prefer Amy, but only because I once knew a Hannah that I didn't get on with.

beautifulmonument · 12/08/2020 09:09

I like Hannah. Amy not so much.

Gladio · 12/08/2020 09:09

I like Hannah

monkeyonthetable · 12/08/2020 09:09

Both are pretty, but I prefer Hannah. Lovely name.

Theforest · 12/08/2020 09:12

Amy is quite dated for a baby now I think

TinyMetalBirds · 12/08/2020 09:14

I think Amy is lovely, and it means beloved.

DrDetriment · 12/08/2020 09:15

Both are lovely names.

NotAnotherHelen · 12/08/2020 09:22

There were thirteen Hannahs in my year at my girls’ secondary school. Your DD won’t encounter many of either name her own age but it will be common amongst her friends’ mums. As someone who was given an incredibly popular name as it was on its way out I don’t personally recommend it.

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 12/08/2020 09:23

Hannah was on our list, and was joint favourite with the name we ended up using. Not as keen on Amy

IrishMamaMia · 12/08/2020 09:25

I like Hannah, with Amy as a middle name. It's really simple and elegant. I like variants like Johanna too.

BeMorePacific · 12/08/2020 09:43

I absolutely love the name Amy ♥️

HowFastIsTooFast · 12/08/2020 09:46

I've just added Hannah to our list! Very pretty :)

Marlena1 · 12/08/2020 09:48

I love Amy, but I don't mind "dated"
