Just that really, had the pessary put in an hour ago and now judging to see what happens, am I doomed to a long three or four days ending in a section or is there hope for a lesser duration vaginal birth?? Just for info I'm 38 +2 and induced early due to small baby appx 5lbs 10. Thanks for anyone who shares! X

I was in the same situation as you, induced at 37 weeks due to small baby! Took a good few days and had to go through the whole process including the drip but was able to have a vaginal birth - was all highly medicalised but had a healthy 5lb daughter which was the main thing! Hopefully you’ll be ok and progress without needing too much help - lots of inductions don’t end in c section! Wishing you lots of luck!

Thanks so much for your reply @Corilee2806 I'm ok with hanging in there a few days if I get w natural birth but the thought of going through labouring for days and then still having a csection is awful! Where they anywhere near accurate with the babies measurements? Glad you're both ok xx

Also I lost my plug three hours after pessary so hoping that's a good sign! X

Induced at 38+5 due to big baby 4 weeks ago. Went in and got examined, didn't need pessary as I was already 1cm dilated and my cervix was low. Had the gel put in at about 5pm, moved to delivery ward at 2am and started having contractions. Had an epidural and was put on hormone drip, baby was born at almost 8pm the day after the induction via forceps. Sounds like a lot but was a fairly good experience! We were discharged the evening after baby was born so was only in there for a day and a bit.

My waters broke by themselves about 13 hours after I had the pessary. Baby was born about 5 hours later. No drip needed, and pain relief wise I just had gas and air and a bit of paracetamol and dihydrocodeine. It was all fine!

Best wishes for the safe arrival of your baby - I hope you have a good experience too.

Corilee2806 · 11/08/2020 22:06

Losing your plug already is a good sign - hopefully things will start naturally for you now! Yes they were accurate with her weight, I was told to expect 5lb 3 so she was just under. Keep walking around if you can even if it’s just in the hospital, it can help to get things going! Keeping fingers crossed for you.

About an hour after the pessary I started having contractions. Vaginal birth about 15 hours later.
Good luck!

Katnissx · 11/08/2020 22:18

Good luck op! I had an induction at 39+5 and had my DS via vaginal birth 12 hours after the pessary was put in! I did have a hypersensitivity to the pessary though so contractions started very quickly and then were near constant and I ended up having an epidural. Hope all goes well for you xxx

My 2nd was induced at 38+2 - large baby plus reduced movements. Was basically the same pattern as my 1st, baby 24h after gel, waters went on their own after about 20h. Didn't get on the drip although did get pethidine in the latent stage which wouldn't be an option in non induced labour.

Could easily have had a bath - they had one that is massive in the antenatal ward, was encouraged but I have never found baths relaxing.

Oh these are all making me feel so much better that it's not a given I will need a section. So many of my friends this year have ended up having one so I resigned myself to the fact I would but hearing your stories and losing my plug quite quickly has given me a little hope! Thank you all so much! ❤️❤️

Hi- I was in the same position as you with both of my pregnancies. First baby was born at 36+5 weeks after an induction on the Friday night, things started to get moving about 24 hours later, and baby arrived Sunday morning weighing 4lb 8oz. Perfect healthy little boy.

With my second DS, I was induced at 37 weeks. Nothing happened with first pessary, and then after the second pessary a day and a half later things started working ten minutes and it all went v quickly from there! Baby born at 4lb 8 again, and perfectly healthy.

Both times when the pessary didn't seem to be doing much at the start I was convinced it would end up as a c section, but it wasn't the case, so don't worry!

Good luck with it xx

BabyB19 · 12/08/2020 08:54

Thank you @mcgonagalscat I'm now 15 hours in with the pessary, had to have it out back in as it came out in the night so not sure how many hours were lost due to that. Not much happening other than that but still more hopeful from your stories ❤️❤️

How are you getting on, OP?

Spark27 · 12/08/2020 15:49

Hope things are going well. I was induced at 38+2 am and had my DD at 39+4 pm, so took a few days but didnt end up in c section. It was a positive experience, all the mws were lovely and I had an epidural so got to sleep for some of it as well x

BabyB19 · 12/08/2020 17:36

@Spark27 that's a terribly long time!! I hope it's not that long 😭🤦🏽‍♀️
@mcgonagalscat no update as yet I'm afraid. Due to have pessary removed in an hour and have my cervix checked to see if it has improved. Apparently it was at 5 on bishops score when they put it in whatever the chuff that means! 🤷🏽‍♀️ xx

Sorry, I made a fat finger error there
I had her at 38+4 😅. Sorry for scaring you x

whataballbag · 12/08/2020 19:02

I was induced due to pre eclampsia at 37 weeks.

Midwife tried to give me a sweep the day before and couldn't even find my cervix so I held no hopes whatsoever. Had pessary around 10am on the Friday, few cramps throughout the day but nothing special.

Started getting really quite crampy around 5am. Waters went at 6 at 3cm. Walked to delivery suite at around 6:45am as I was in too much pain to sit in the chair. Think the midwife thought I was being dramatic as was only 3cm 40 minutes earlier. DS2 was born at 7:15am!

BabyB19 · 12/08/2020 19:04

Thank god for that nearly cried for you then! @Spark27 🤣
I've had the pessary out and it's done its job and got me to 1cm so they are just planning when to break my waters now and hopefully I will progress quickly after that ladies 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼 xx

Spark27 · 12/08/2020 20:56

Yay. Excellent news. Hope it all goes quickly for you and you're holding you baby soon x

Katnissx · 12/08/2020 21:35

Great news @BabyB19! Good luck xx
