Constant nausea

Hi all, I am almost 7 weeks pregnant and this horrible constant nausea began last week. After trial and error I've realised that if I just eat plain carbohydrates I can keep the nausea at bay. For example, today so far I've had toast, ginger nuts, potatoes and plan on having either pasta or rice for dinner. I tried having meat and vegetables and even things like eggs over the last week but they just make me feel awful.

Will the baby be ok? I am managing to keep down folic acid and vitamin d, but that's it.

Hiya, I'm 13 weeks, and I have been sick every day for 8 weeks. They say sickness indicates a healthy baby!
You must order yourself the travel sickness wristbands - they are a god send x

I was exactly the same, carbs are life in the early weeks :)
I’m now 21 weeks, baby is measuring fine, all scans okay.
Try not to worry and eat whatever makes you feel less sick

Thank you both. I have just ordered the wristbands! I hope this sickness doesn't last the whole time - this is torture (especially in this heat) and I can't get anything else done..

Baby takes all of its nutrients from your body in the first trimester. So if anything, you may find your skin/hair etc loosing their luster but baby will have all the nutrients it needs. I felt sick and had awful heartburn from week 6. Sickness mostly gone from week 9 but the heartburn still there! Try eating little and often, even if you don’t feel like it, it tends to make you feel better!

I promise you'll feel slightly more yourself with those bands.
And you know those simple 'Nice' biscuits, I have them by my bedside and the second I wake up I eat one. Seems to start the day of better.

Thank you so much

Oh you poor thing! I feel your pain, I started feeling nauseous at 6 weeks and started puking not long after! Still going but not as bad now at 13 weeks, I was being sick 10-15 times a day so thankfully my go prescribed me with an anti emetic. I've actually found fizzy sweets (the kind you get in a 10p mix) have really helped the nausea! Fizzy cola bottles and the dummy shaped ones. Couldn't believe it! You're doing the right thing eating plain and little and often is the key. I find if I get hungry I start feeling sick! Hope it eases for you soon!

Oh and my gp and midwife both said anything you can eat is great! Even if it's just biscuits or crackers. As long as you're getting plenty of fluids :)

I was exactly the same when pregnant with DD1, I had it until around 13/14 weeks and ended up on the sick for a month with it - carbs were all I could manage, too. It did go away but came back again at around week 26 for a few weeks but wasn't as bad. Even the thought of the washing machine used to turn my stomach. My GP prescribed me tablets but I didn't want to take them. I found grazing all day really helped - biscuits, plain crisps, plain chips... oh and dairylea dunkers jumbo tubes!

I'm 26 weeks pregnant with DD2 now and the nausea hasn't been anywhere near like last time so if you do have another, there is hope!

Hope you're feeling better soon

I was the same, I just grazed all day on crap carbs and worried a bit about the first one and if I was cheating her with my unhealthy diet. They were all healthy and large, no damage done. My sympathies though, just do whatever gets you through it Smile.

Snorlax86 · 13/08/2020 17:23

I feel your pain, mine started at 6 weeks, and is still here 6 weeks later. I struggle to even cook most days as anything can trigger it, carbs and sugar has been my go to. My midwife said as long as you’re having fluids and can keep them down then that’s fine, it is really horrible being sick in the heat though x

Thank you all for the support and the reassurance. It's good to know I'm not harming the baby by eating such a poor diet. Today I managed toast, chips, bread and butter and now plain boiled rice! I made sweetcorn yesterday just to see if I could eat it and I almost threw up just looking at it on the plate! Can't wait for this to be over!
