Nerve damage from an epidural

I gave birth 8 days ago to my boy and ever since I have suffered with pins and needles in all of my finger tips and ring finger.

Is this permanent damage from my epidural ?

Permanent damage from an epidural is possible, but not likely.

It could be that your nerve was pinched during the procedure - not necessarily from the needle. I had real problems with my hip joint for a few months, but it did go away. When you have the epidural you don't necessarily know that your body is in awkward position - so you can pull a muscle, strain your joints etc quite easily.

It's worth mentioning this to your GP. It could be a result of your epidural but tingling or numbness in the extremities can be signs of other non birth related conditions and it's better to be safe than sorry.

I’ve had permanent damage from an epidural but it’s my foot, 11 years and counting. Got zero help or sympathy from the GP I’m afraid.
Could it not be carpal tunnel syndrome if it’s your hands? Common in pregnancy and also from picking up baby and using your hands a lot more? X

It can take a while for everything to feel normal again but worth asking for it to be looked at - After my epidural my whole left bum cheek going round into the side of my hip was completely numb for about 5 days before the area effected slowing started to get feeling back as the numbness sort of shrank away, I cant remember exactly but it probably was a couple of weeks before it felt completely normal again.

You wouldn’t get upper limb symptoms from nerve damage caused by an epidural. The epidural only affects the nerves that supply your pelvis and legs

Congratulations on your new baby by the way Smile

Congratulations. This is not related to your epidural. M

Thank you everyone!
Good point about it should only affect the legs etc but you just not sure do ya haha
It possible would be carpel tunnel as I'm breastfeeding so adjusting to getting comfy and hands. Will keep an eye on it 😀
