How to sleep in this heat? 36 weeks pregnant and melting

Tips needed! It’s so bloody hot, hardly slept at all last night and looks to be the same tonight. Apart from a fan, what else can I do?

Damp flannels on your head and feet?

UrsulaSings · 08/08/2020 17:28

Damp flannels on your hands as well. My hands get SOO hot.

BendingSpoons · 08/08/2020 17:31

Put a damp flannel or small towel in the freezer and then use when you go to bed. I like to use it on the back of my neck. Probably a bit late now, but you can buy cooling spray.

mrs87 · 08/08/2020 17:33

Isn't it horrific! 36 weeks pregnant and 36 degrees! I can't bear it. It constantly looks like my waters have broken due to the amount of arse sweat I've got going on. Will try damp flannels in front of a fan tonight!

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 08/08/2020 17:36

34 weeks here and also dying. My feet feel like they’ve been set on fire all the time.

bathorshower · 08/08/2020 17:39

It was hot when I was pregnant a few years ago. DH went out and bought a stand alone air conditioner - it's noisy, but it still works now. Would that be an option for you?

TwinkleStars15 · 08/08/2020 17:59

Thanks, I’ve just soaked some flannels in cold water and have draped one over each foot and one on my head! I’m so uncomfortable Sad

Solidarity @TwinkleStars15 I don’t think it’s the heat for me but I’m so uncomfortable at night. I’m
36+5 and was awake for nearly three hours in the middle of the night. Sad

Wigglebum87 · 08/08/2020 18:01

I saw a recommendation on here a couple of months ago that I use, pop an ice pack in a hot water bottle cover for bed time or a frozen hot water bottle, saved me last night!

Margo34 · 08/08/2020 18:13

Stealing the cold damp flannel idea! I was awake at 3.50am this morning having only managed to drift off at midnight 😭 I've spent most of the day sat with my feet in a bucket of iced water or laying on the laminate wood floor downstairs to try and nap while the husband was out. If anyone peered through the window it might have looked like I'd had a fall!

TwinkleStars15 · 08/08/2020 18:17

It’s just awful isn’t it. I spent at least 3 hours in the birth pool today ha! I needed to do a trial run to see how long it took to fill, so took full advantage of a cool pool Smile

Ah so envious of anyone with access to a cool pool, paddling pool, birth pool or otherwise!

MrsK89 · 08/08/2020 18:29

I read on here to fill a hot water bottle with cold water and it definitely works! Right on my feet which are constantly burning

ChatWithMe · 08/08/2020 19:02

I wet my hair in the shower just before bed and it helps for at least an hour, long enough to fall asleep.

RowboatsinDisguise · 08/08/2020 20:17

When I was pregnant with DS, I slept with a cold, wet, muslin draped over me (for weeks - bloody heatwave). I’ll be doing the same tonight I think!

difficulttod · 08/08/2020 20:19

Honestly, get a foot spa. Mine was only about £20 from argos, I haven't used it again since DD was born but it absolutely was the best thing I purchased. Added some peppermint foot soak to it and just sat with my feet in it all evening every day!

SeaToSki · 08/08/2020 20:23

Forget the damp flannel, use a damp towel! Drape it over your whole torso Aim a fan at it and drift off to sleep.

PawPatrolMakesMeDrink · 08/08/2020 20:30

Absolutely upgrade the damp flannel to a damp towel, have it over your legs and then a flannel on each boob and one on your head. Sexy it ain’t, but it definitely helps with being able to sleep.

SinkGirl · 08/08/2020 20:31

Buy some cooling towels - you wet them, wring them out and then drape them on yourself and put round your neck, they stay cool for ages. Wish I’d had them when I was pregnant!

Roselilly36 · 08/08/2020 20:39

I’m not pregnant, but I have MS, my symptoms are much worse in the heat. I have been using cool gel packs straight from the fridge, feet in cold water with ice helps & ice lollies too. Being pregnant in a heatwave is really tough.

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 08/08/2020 20:42

Shower immediately before bed and put hair up quite damp if long enough. The damp hair helps keep you cool for longer. I'm only 24.5 weeks but that's bad enough! Was 37 weeks in 2002 when we had a heatwave - was horrid!!

MrsA2015 · 08/08/2020 20:42

Put the fan in your room before having a cool shower. Magnesium oil spray on your legs and a cooling face mist. Damp flannels and light cotton bedding! 35 weeks here Grin

SinkGirl · 08/08/2020 21:32

Here you go OP - can still get delivery tomorrow if you order tonight.

You will thank me!
