I'm 24 weeks pregnant and can't remember the last time I slept past 5am, it seems to be my bodies new wake-up time much to my annoyance! Is this a pregnancy thing, is anyone else struggling??

I am 28 weeks. I got 2 hours sleep last night between 10 and 12. Pregnancy insomnia mixed with restless leg syndrome, except I seem to get it in all limbs. I remember this on DC1. I was a zombie by 40 weeks. People kept saying "you think you are tired now? Wait until the baby comes". Helpful 🙄 turned out, I got more sleep with a newborn than I did while pregnant.

Its horrible. Its draining. There seems to be no fix. You have my sympathy. I am the same.

I really struggled with early wake ups and the GP prescribed some antihistamines that make me drowsy as she said it was important not to get into habit. I am in my first trimester though so it might not be appropriate for further along. Ask your GP everywhere else I read about pregnancy insomnia just said "tough luck" x

I'm not pregnant but I realised it's when it starts to get light, so I pop an eye mask on (I don't have black out blinds) and I can usually get back to sleep... not today though, too excited about this weekend

Keepingcomfy · 08/08/2020 06:11

Same! 21 weeks here and awake at 5 this morning. I feel shattered but can't get back to sleep at all. It's so frustrating 😫

userabcname · 08/08/2020 06:18

It's to prepare you for the baby! Babies love 5am.

Napqueen1234 · 08/08/2020 06:39

I’m not sure I would take drugs if pregnant and you can avoid them! Slightly odd advice from a GP there. If you’re sleeping solidly until 5am I would just go to bed earlier. It’s what we did with early rising babies and kids, trying to make yourself sleep is hopeless really (even more so trying to make kids sleep!). Get in bed at 9, get 8 solid hours so come 5am you can get up and watch telly or do some yoga or go for a walk etc. It won’t last forever by the third trimester I was so knackered I slept constantly (With lots of wake ups for wees!). FWIW I found pregnancy as tiring as having a newborn (both times) so don’t let people frighten you with all that ‘think you’re tired now...’ crap!

YesINameChangeEveryDay · 08/08/2020 07:59

Insomnia is common during pregnancy. If you're able to, try to go to bed earlier or have the occasional nap to catch up.

TheAquaticDuchess · 08/08/2020 08:02

I’m exactly the same OP. It’s driving me mad because then I’m knackered during the day! I’ve tried pushing my own bedtime back but it doesn’t make a difference.

Feel so sorry for those with pregnancy insomnia, it must be awful.

PotteringAlong · 08/08/2020 08:06

I agree, it works wonders to get you ready for the point when 5am is just the point that you get up!

TobysMum16 · 08/08/2020 08:14

I’ve had this since 26 weeks (I’m now 34). Usually wake up for a bit just before dawn. At first it really stressed me out, now I just try and relax with my eyes closed. Usually eventually drift back off and get up at 8. Also have a short nap around lunch time.
As others have said, best just to go with it. Rest when you can, sleep when you can and don’t try to force it as you can’t make yourself sleep!
Once baby is here your sleep is all over the place anyway.

chubbyhotchoc · 08/08/2020 08:19

Yes. 5am I'm awake ( also 24 weeks). Prep for baby coming

Rainy88 · 08/08/2020 08:40

I'm finding it really difficult. I can't even nap in the day as napping always makes me wake up feeling sick and groggy! 😣

Any tips for boosting energy throughout the day appreciated!!

Coffee. Chocolate. Sheer determination. Chanting 'this will not last forever' while drinking the coffee and eating the chocolate despite it feeling like it will.

Rainy88 · 08/08/2020 09:11

@SqidgeBum If only I drank coffee! 🤣

@Rainy88 Fresh air and a little gentle exercise can work wonders to make you feel more awake.

Strawberries4days · 08/08/2020 10:19

Yes mostly 4.30 or 5am! But it's mostly to do with sore sides or needing the toilet. I think I slept in till 7.30am once and treated that as a lie inGrin I mostly have a power nap if I feel really tired during the day or just stay in bed to try to fall back asleep. It doesn't help that the baby would start to kick at that time too so maybe it is just prepping for her. I'm not sure what would help but I guess just try and have an early night and read a book in bed with no phone on. Hopefully this won't last forever!

Sairafina · 08/08/2020 12:37

What time do you go to bed in the evening? I'm usually knackered by 8.30/9 so waking up at 5 doesn't seem too bad! It helps that it's light in the morning so can usually catch a gorgeous sunrise whilst having my (decaf) coffee and feeling the kicks 🥰
