folling on from the 'what you are looking forward to...' thread i thought we should have a 'things you should appreciate before you have your baby thread. i don't want to scare you or be negative i just really want you all to make the most of these things

ok here goes:

-reading the newspapers at the weekend
-being able to hear people on the phone
-typing with both hands & using capitals
-being able to finish a mn post in less than 20 mins

I have more but see above point!

leaving the house. Just going. Just going for a walk. Or to the shops. Or just going to the cinema. Or for a meal. Or even just going in and out of the front door a few times. The ability to 'just go' anywhere!

and when you are ill, just being able to look after yourself.

the sound of silence.

being able to just go somewhere (just the shop even) at the drop of a hat.

Not having handbag, pockets etc. full of kids 'stuff'.

Have a bath or shower in privicy with the door shut.

Eat at a decent time not 4.30pm

Be spontanious.

getting petrol without the whole internal 'do i leave them sleeping in the car or wake them & take them in while I pay' debate.

  • drinking a hot cup of tea/coffee
  • silence
  • travelling light (whether its a trip to the shops or a full-blown holiday)
  • making a hairdressers/doctors/dentists appt for yourself without having to consider where the DC will be/who is picking them up etc etc
  • enjoying a late night, especially with alcohol, without it constantly going through your mind "I'm going to be woken up in x hours"

Doing nothing, even for a few minutes.
Sleep.
Being able to MN without someone else tapping on the keyboard.
Sleep.
Being able to cook without being screamed at because your attention isn't fully focussed on a little person.
Sleep.
Being able to use the phone during the day.
Sleep.
Reading.
Sleep.
Having a bath by yourself.
Sleep.
Eating when you feel like it, instead of to fit in with toddler groups/nap times/bed times etc.
Sleep.

Oh yes shopping.

It gets like an SAS mission with precission planning and you still have to dive in and out before it all kicks off, essentials only.

hot meals (when you have a baby you will never get to eat a hot meal )

Lie-in's

Go away for a couple of days last time you will beaway together without either having a LO with you or worrying about what LO's up to

sleep and the phone thing deffo

three days before I was due with ds1 I was plodding around Brent Cross shopping for me. I took a pair of eyelash curlers I had chosed to the cash desk of a comsetics store and the woman behind the counter let out a sharp bark of derisive laughter.
