Shortened Cervix, 18 weeks and Progesterone

Hi everyone,

Would really like to hear if anyone has experienced anything similar to this. I'm 18 weeks and have been having ultrasounds to check the length of the cervix because of previous surgery on the cervix. It's gone from measuring 35mm to 28mm so they have prescribed progesterone pessaries to support the cervix from shortening which can result in preterm labour. They wouldn't want it below 25mm. The doctor also said because the placenta is slightly covering the cervix opening they would want to avoid stitching it which is another way of treating a shortening cervix.

It's been a rollercoaster TTC for 4 years, previous early miscarriage and this pregnancy has also kept us on our toes with early bleeding and coming back with high risks of downs which we followed up with the nipt test. This then showed us as low risk. I get anxious anyway but was finally starting to settle into the pregnancy and feel excited and now I'm feeling worried again. Especially with the cervix already shortening at such an early stage. I'm worried it won't get to full term but I know that's me just thinking worst case scenario which isn't helpful and I am being carefully monitored which is good.

Has anyone else had experience of this? X

Hey!
I found out my cervix was 28mm at my 20 week scan a couple of weeks ago, and I’m so worried! How are you getting on? Has the progesterone done it’s job? I hope everything is okay :)

@Amlxxx The progesterone did appear to do its job. I had a few measurements done and it really did vary depending on who was doing it. They went up and down a few times and then stayed up.

@Amlxxx

I was given progesterone pessaries from 24 weeks as my cervix went from 3.4 to 2.4 in the space of a week, had three a day and carried to 40+5

OP glad they worked for you too, assume your either near due date or already had the baby :)
