Pregnant on the implant?

Hello

I'm looking for some advice on the situation I am in just now.
I have the implant and think I may be pregnant.

I have done five pregnancy tests since June and all have came back negative! I have been having usual pregnancy symptoms such as nausea, sore chest, heart burn etc. I have also had a period just 2 weeks ago. Which has been making me think well I can't be right?

Over the past couple of weeks I have noticed the bottom of my belly has got bigger and have been feeling bloated. My jeans have also gotten tighter within the last week.

I have had the implant before and never experienced any of these symptoms. I would be around 12-15 weeks by now.
I have a phone appointment with a doctor tomorrow and hopefully get a blood test done.

I am just so confused and don't know what is going on! I am really worried and anxious about all of this Confused

I would appreciate any responses by anyone who has been through anything similar to this. Thanks.

Can you actually feel the implant very clearly OP? The same thing happened to me and after months and months of investigations it transpired that it hadn't even been inserted! I was 15 weeks along by the time I found out I was pregnant (the nexplanon implantation device doesn't have anything to stop the implant falling straight out of the end of the needle if it is not held level prior to insertion - though if your GP isn't a negligent arse they should check it's position after fitting it and teach you to check for it also).

It is also possible that your implant is in there but is part of a faulty batch. So in short, yes. It is possible that you could be pregnant.

P.S if you do find out you are pregnant, please don't be fobbed off by the NHS - make sure they report this to Merck so they can check the rest of the batch for issues!

Good luck.

Yes I can feel the implant in my arm. I thought it may have not been inserted properly but I can definitely feel it.
If I find out I am I will be asking why it has happened? As the implant is supposed to be over 99% in stopping any conceptions.

I think it's maybe part of a faulty batch or hasn't been inserted properly!

I'm sorry to hear you went through this and had to deal with such unprofessionalism off of whoever inserted it.

You don’t need a blood test, a urine pregnancy test will tell you if you’re pregnant.

I hope you get the result you want.

PurpleDaisies · 06/08/2020 17:34

Sorry, I’ve just realised that you have taken five pregnancy tests which have all been negative. You won’t be pregnant.

Tiger2015 · 06/08/2020 17:50

@PurpleDaisies I am honestly just so confused by this situation. I have been feeling movement in my lower belly as well which makes me think that I am but other things point to that I can’t be. Something is definitely not right so I’ll probably need a blood test. It’s driving me crazy!

How long has the implant been in for? Could it be expired?

@Chwaraeteg - you mean you didn't realise it wasn't even in?

Tiger2015 · 06/08/2020 20:05

@CannonCaboodle I have had it in since October last year so it can’t be expired.

In that case it's most probably still working! Hopefully you get your blood test tomorrow.

Chwaraeteg · 06/08/2020 20:27

@canoncaboodle - no, I didn't realise the implant wasn't in. The Dr did explain to me that the recommended position to site the implant had changed since I'd last had one, so it didn't seem strange to me that I could only feel a little bump (which transpired to be the scar tissue from the previous implant I had had) Confused

OP definitely worth getting checked just to be on the safe side but just to reassure you, I was on the implant for 5 years (two separate ones obviously) and occasionally had pregnancy symptoms and the odd period. I reassured myself by taking a test every few months and was never pregnant. Currently trying to conceive so totally opposite stage of my life. Hope your appointment goes ok but wanted to let you now that you can get pregnancy like symptoms without being pregnant!

TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 · 06/08/2020 20:37

If the tests are coming up negative it's unlikely that you are pregnant, you also wouldn't be feeling any baby movements at 12-15 weeks.

It's closer to 16-20 weeks for first barely there fluttering.

Some of your symptoms plus lack of pregnancy proof makes me wonder if your body has started to change hormonally. Basically I was on progesterone only contraception when I was 21. It's called depo provers, an intramuscular injection. The first round gave me no symptoms so I thought it was great. Three months later I had a second one. Within one month I started getting heavier, bloated, weight gain around my abdomen making me look pregnant (even got asked by one supermarket checkout lady how far along I was). I felt tired, dizzy at times, more spots (all pregnancy symptoms I have now I'm expecting!). Anyhow I'm just wondering if you do find out you're definitely not pregnant maybe it's best to get the implant removed and try another method? Good luck x

ChatWithMe · 06/08/2020 20:43

Depo provera*

Tiger2015 · 06/08/2020 21:27

Thank you for all your kind words.
It’s just so frustrating and really stressing me out that I don’t know what on earth is going on.

If it turns out I’m not pregnant on the implant then I will definitely be getting it taken out and getting some other contraception as this is absolutely draining having all these symptoms and not knowing if I’m pregnant or not it’s making me go off my head!
