When i get my 20 week scan certificate, is it a good idea to send it to HR ? or just wait until 15 weeks before due date. What have others done before ?

Following this! Been put on furlough till October but they will be topping up to 80%. No idea when to tell them. My 15 weeks are at first week of October and 20 week scan is first week of Sep.

I'd disclose at 12 weeks. So they can do a risk assessment if required.

I told my work HR dept and line manager at 16 weeks.

Legally you don't have to tell them until 15 weeks before due date but its a completely personal choice. Agree with above poster though that a risk assessment depending on what job you do could benefit you earlier on in your pregnancy.

Remember that if you do tell them you're pregnant you're entitled to reasonable time off work for all types of pregnancy related appointments too.

I told my HR department at 13 weeks once we told family & close friends, I sent in my MATB1 form as soon as I got it from my midwife which was at 22 weeks, and I completed my Mat leave request just before 25 weeks.

Telling them earlier allows for risk assessments etc, which I felt was really important given I was furloughed and if going back to the office, all precautions were being taken.

I told my boss of my pregnancy after my 12 week scan . I formally handed in a letter to my boss and HR with my intended dates for maternity leave at 23 weeks . At 24/25 weeks I handed in my matb1 to HR.

I told my manager at about 8 weeks so a risk assessment could be done and I could get paid time off for antenatal appointments. Submitted my mat leave form just in advance of the 25 week deadline, but MATB1 certificates aren't issued until 25 weeks here so I just submitted that as soon as I had it.

The sooner you tell them, the sooner you are given your maternity protected rights at work and the sooner they can do a risk assessment.
I can't think of any reason to leave it until last minute (unless you were possibly trying to secure a promotion before letting them know)
