Subchorionic bleed..... anyone else??

Just wondering if there is anyone else out there that has a subchorionic bleed?
I started bleeding last weekend at 15 weeks and got sent for a reassurance scan at the hospital. Baby is happy and squiggly, however they spotted a subchorionic bleed above the pregnancy sack and said this is what is causing the bleeding.
I am now to expect some bleeding for the foreseeable, potentially the whole way through pregnancy. Although it could disappear completely at any time.

I'm trying to rest up more than I was and have stopped running etc... one of my concerns is that this is going to prevent me to having a home birth or going to a midwife led unit - but I can't find much info out there (other than typical super scary google stuff!)

I had this with my second. I bled at around 11 weeks and some slight spotting later on. He did make an early appearance but that was totally unrelated. He's a full of beans 2 year old now!

@dinosaurmommy hello! Yes the drs did say that baby should be fine dispute the bleed. Did you still have the option of a home north open to you?

@Gurtie28 hi, yes i am currently 25 weeks pregnant. I had two subchorionic haematomas that were detected at around 6 weeks and I bled fairly regularly (including with cramping on some days) for the next 6-7 weeks, after which the haematomas appeared to resolve spontaneously and thankfully no bleeding since. It was a scary time, and I’m told there’s a higher chance of having such bleeding following Ivf treatment. Stay strong and take each day as it comes.

I’m not sure of the answer to your home birth question sorry. I guess it would depend on how quickly the haematomas resolve?

@Gurtie28 I hadn't explored the option of a home birth so I'm not sure. However, I was advised that I could still give birth in a midwife-led unit. I hope that helps. I was reassured that this was fairly normal.

I had one at 16 weeks. Lasted less than a week, scared the bejesus out of me. If my Ob/Midwife had their way I'd have had a VBAC so I doubt they will stop you homebirthing on that basis alone.

The Obstetric reg I saw after the bleed said that following implantation you can get a pocket of blood building up, just as when you put a screw in the wall, you get debris. The subchorionic bleed is a byproduct of the implantation. I found that analogy really comforting and I hope you do too.

Incidentally, I am currently cuddling the very tired sleeping 8.5 month old who caused me all that angst whilst in utero!

I had one at 9 weeks - had been absorbed by my 12 week scan and hasn't been mentioned since! In fact - I asked them if it was still there at my scan as they didn't refer to it!

I'm high risk so was always consultant led but the consultant has never referred to it. It's so scary isn't it! Hope you are ok x

I had one and bled from 4-12 weeks when I sadly lost the baby. I'm absolutely not saying that the MC was caused by the bleed - that's just my experience. I know any bleeding in pregnancy is a worry, it's also incredibly common. Wishing you lots of luck

Thank you for all the replies!!! I'm on day 7 of bleeding now but no more or less each day and no pain so staying calm! It's certainly not nice to see blood when you are pregnant - but I guess it's just one of those things we have no control over. Good to know it may still be possible for me to home birth/midwife until, fingers crossed it shrinks and disappears soon!
Felt some flutters last night which is exciting - at least the baby is not effected by the haematoma.

I had one from which bleed from 5-16ish weeks, I am now 29 weeks and it hasn’t bothered me except from a tiny brown bleed at 27 weeks, which the midwife said was due to baby getting bigger and pushing out the last little bits of it. I am consultant led for a different reason but she is happy for me to transfer to midwife led care for the birth so it doesn’t seem to have affected birthing choices for me Smile
