How is your hospital doing the GTT?

Hi all,

I am 28 +5 and am due to have my check for GD this week due to my Dad being type 2.

Feeling a little frustrated after a wasted trip to the hospital this morning for a blood test. Was told during my booking appointment over the phone at 14 weeks that I would need the test and they sent out the paperwork stating I needed a Full Blood Count and a GTT.

But when I saw my midwife 3 weeks ago at 25 weeks she said it will be a different type of test as hospitals don't want you hanging around for 2-3 hours due to Covid-19.

I called the community midwife phone line about a week ago as I still hadn't had an appointment for a test (for some reason I thought I needed one) and she said I would just need a routine blood test as although my Dad is type 2 I'm not a high risk pregnancy. She said determinedly that I would not need to fast.

Went along today and was told to come back tomorrow as I hadn't fasted. 🙈 Because the original paperwork said "GTT" that's what they have to deliver.

Not the end of the world but I just wondered, for those that have had a GTT recently, did you have to hang around in the hospital? What is the actual procedure?

I made arrangements to come back at 7am tomorrow to get it done first thing but I also have my 28 week midwife appointment at 9am and so I am debating as to whether I will have time before.

Sorry for the ramble, hope I have made sense.

Although my hospital have been amazing to us, its also crappy that you never get to speak to the same person twice!! 🙈

My hospital changed theirs from a GTT test to a fasting test so basically you fast from the night before and then just have one blodd test done along with your normal 28 weeks tests and can go home straight away x
