Negative test at 17 weeks?

Ok, this may sound stupid and it's a long story. Please bear with. It’ll also be on several posts and it won’t seem to let me post the whole thing?

Since losing some weight my periods have been regular, every 32-34 days and would last for about 3-4 days with a strong but not too heavy flow

I started taking the pill in February, didn't enjoy the side effects mentally so I stopped at the end of March. I then had a my period in April and didn't take the pill again. In what would have been my fertile window (according to my tracking app) my boyfriend and I had an accident and I had to get the morning after pill. This was very hard to find on a Saturday at the height of lockdown as I knew I could get it for free. I managed to see a doctor at the walk in centre who prescribed me Levonelle. He prescribed 2 tablets as I was over a certain weight and I took them about 14 hours after the accident. I haven't had any intercourse since then.

Come the beginning of May I had some bleeding which I just took as my period but now I think about it, it was lighter than what I had before. In June and July I had my 'period' which again was very light bleeding/spotting and they came about 28 days apart. I thought it was a bit odd that they were so light but I didn't think too much of it. On Saturday I started what would have been my period but there was barely any blood and only lasted about 24 hours. It was more like spotting and wouldn't have been enough to fill a pad. I found this very weird so I spoke to my mum and told her all of this. She suggested that I take a pregnancy test just in case. I have taken 3 tests, one this morning and 2 this evening and all 3 have come back negative.

I've had a few pregnancy symptoms but they haven't really shouted out to me so to say, but I have put on 5 cm around my waist since the beginning of July and a few on my hips and I haven't put on any weight. I've not measured the middle of my stomach so I have no idea if that's got bigger, it looks like it probably has. Looking at a side profile the top of my stomach/bottom of my boobs to my belly button seems to have a classic pregnancy curve and it's much harder than it used to be. My belly has only seemed to have done this in the past few days, it's like it's popped out.

The belly and the few symptoms I have would make me think that I was pregnant but the spotting and the negative pregnancy tests say otherwise. As I haven't had intercourse since April if I was pregnant it would make me about 17 weeks according to a due date calculator. Is it possible that I could be pregnant?

I am going to talk to the doctor about it as I've been dealing with back pain since April and I'm due a check up on my anti-depressants (which according to the leaflet I shouldn't be taking if I am pregnant) but I was wondering if anyone else has had this before and had a negative test result but still been pregnant?

No. You arent pregnant.

maria2bela · 05/08/2020 04:29

There is such a thing towards about 5 months pregnant when you're HCG takes a drop and a pregnancy test could come back negative. To be honest it is more likely you have another type of hormonal issue going on which is causing your periods to be scanty and making you put on weight on your abdomen, you can ask your dr to do a blood test to rule out pregnancy or have an early scan booked privately if you have the money x

I would see your doctor. It seems unlikely you are pregnant, but with the bloating, back pain and unusual periods it’s worth speaking to a GP.

Araz208 · 05/08/2020 05:40

You arent pregnant. You should see a doctor to discuss your symptoms and rule out an underlying condition.

fightfirewithfire · 05/08/2020 22:30

Thanks I wasn't sure that I would be pregnant. I'm going to talk to the doctor tomorrow. I'm due a blood test next week so I'm going to ask if they could check my hormones or thyroid or whatever they think is appropriate at the same time as my elevated ESR for my back pain

Are you up to date on your smear test?

@MizMoonshine

Are you up to date on your smear test?
I've never had one. I'm only 24, I'm not due one until I turn 25 in March

@fightfirewithfire

You can request a smear test, you might need to be pushy, but they will do one for you x

You're not pregnant. It's more likely the pill and the morning after pill has had an effect on your periods. It's very common. Having a period 28 days apart is very normal and wouldn't concern a Dr at all. I actually wouldn't go to a gp with these symptoms if I was you. Wait another month to see if things get back to normal then if not make an appointment.

TwinkleStars15 · 06/08/2020 10:43

No you’re not pregnant. Taking the morning after pill often messes around with your cycle as it’s a huge dose of hormone, you should find that it’ll settle down soon.

I knew that it was very unlikely that I was pregnant. My main concern was my belly and how it suddenly looks like I'm pregnant and is much harder. I already needed to talk to the doctor about a couple of other things so I mentioned it and as I'm having a blood test next week anyway he is testing my hormones as well at the same time. I didn't want to take up more nhs time if I was going to have to have a second blood test so soon after my first
