Hey everyone I agreed to get my whooping cough vaccine but I want to know other people's opinions on the vaccine so I can get some more information as I'm a first time mum thank you x

Is this Facebook group entirely run my medical professionals and scientists? Or just some armchair researchers with degrees in google?

Please don’t spread your anti-vax misinformation and propaganda on a forum for pregnant women.

Op- I had my whooping cough vaccination today. It’s absolutely fine. I put my trust in medical professionals and science.

@Emilyw1993 can you just stop now? The OP has been given some great advice from others and signposted to some decent information sources which will give her the information she needs.

@AlwaysBelieve19 please have a chat to your midwife and have a read of the sources I mentioned earlier. It is a very safe vaccine!

bee222 · 04/08/2020 12:01

I really wish mumsnet would take a no tolerance approach to this stuff and ban users that spread anti-vax links on this site.

countbackfromten · 04/08/2020 12:02

@bee222 couldn’t agree more!

Zippy1510 · 04/08/2020 12:15

Choosing not to vaccinate is not an “informed choice” not when the information comes from social media, dodgy websites and self reporting injury systems. And actually there are plenty of studies that look at the effects of vaccines in pregnant women. I can link the articles if you like. We just don’t test vaccines still in development and going through trial on pregnant women.

bruffin · 04/08/2020 12:27

@Emilyw1993

Yes it does list the things that happen in the smallest number of cases, but they don’t test it on pregnant women because it’s unethical so essentially anyone getting this vaccination is the testing. People can make up their own minds on what information they chose to take on board and what they don’t. There are lots of discussion on the FB group with people who chose to vaccinate and those who don’t, so it’s not an anti-vax forum. It is a place that supports people to make an informed choice when given all the information pros and cons. If OP chooses not to access the site there that is completely their choice. But the fact that when given to children aged 4-8 there was a 1 in 10 to 1 in 100 chance of those children developing anorexia, as stated in the vaccine insert it’s not a risk I am willing to take.
sciencebasedmedicine.org/robert-f-kennedy-jr-promotes-an-awful-epidemiology-study-linking-vaccines-and-neurological-conditions-from-yale/ This completely debunks your study re the anorexia etc
bee222 · 04/08/2020 12:50

@countbackfromten

It looks like they have removed the comment. Glad to see they take this stuff seriously.

AlwaysBelieve19 · 04/08/2020 13:11

Thank you for all your replies I will ask my midwife more information and I will definitely be getting it 💕

Emilyw1993 · 04/08/2020 13:33

@bruffin the anorexia information came directly from the NHS website link to the insert for this vaccination, so are you saying that the NHS information is incorrect?

scaevola · 04/08/2020 13:37

In this context, anorexia means that losing your appetite for a while.

It is wholly unconnected to anorexia nervosa

As @scaevola said - anorexia means losing your appetite for a bit which is frankly very common post having vaccinations or indeed when anyone is ill! You are misrepresenting what is said for your own agenda @Emilyw1993 and very glad they are deleting your posts.

PixellatedPixie · 04/08/2020 13:45

There is an additional benefit to getting that particular vaccine too! I had it when I was pregnant with my second DD as it was recommended by the NHS. When my daughter was a few days old I accidentally nicked her finger with nail clippers and I was SO worried that she could get tetanus plus it was a long weekend so I couldn’t call the GP. I called a friend who is a doctor and she asked if I had had the whooping cough vaccine as it also protects against a few other things. I read that they have almost managed to eliminate newborn tetanus in many parts of Africa due to that vaccine!

The whooping cough vaccine is normally given in late pregnancy and it is massively unlikely that a miscarriage 24 hours after the vaccine is connected. I'm sorry for your loss @Emilyw1993 but the liklihood is you were already in the process of a miscarriage before the vaccine.

Your posts have been removed because I and others reported your antivax scaremongering bs

scotgal99 · 04/08/2020 14:21

@VanillaFrais

Oh my god. The OP asked a perfectly valid question and in response some people are being unnecessarily unpleasant on here. It is possible to answer a question without being rude, judgemental or self-righteous.

OP, the whooping cough vaccine is safe for you to have during pregnancy and will protect both you and your baby from getting whooping cough.

Totally agree with you. I’ve seen it in many threads & it puts you off commenting or saying anything because of how abrupt some people are on here.
GreytExpectations · 04/08/2020 18:10

Op, I understand having questions but why do you feel like asking random strangers on the Internet would be better than listening to the NHS advice? The NHS website clearly states that this vaccine is not harmful to pregnant women and their unborn babies, that should be enough for you.

Staplemaple · 04/08/2020 18:16

Good for you OP, it is important.

strawberrycheesecake1989 · 05/08/2020 16:15

whooping cough vaccination does not guarantee immunity, you can still contract it if you have had the vaccine - think it reduces the risk by 12 percent or something? can't remember really but I looked into this heavily a few months ago. I decided not to get it as I don't respond well to vaccines, it doesn't even guarantee them immunity and the surge in cases was almost 10 years ago. it's completely up to you and don't feel pressured or made to feel like you're a bad mum or person because you want to know exactly what you're doing to your unborn child. I think its brilliant that you've been offered something by your GP and you want arrive at a completely informed decision and see why some people do and do not opt for it. I think its about 60 percent of mum's who go for it.

Do your research and decide for yourself and ignore whatever wretched people are on here being aggressive and judgment - quite depressing to think that these are mothers and that's how they respond to other expectant mother's who have questions about the very challenging road to motherhood.

a large portion of the children who contracted whooping cough in 2012 (I think) had actually had the vaccine... you can find this stuff online! that's not me telling you that you should or shouldn't do it - but please don't let other people rob you of the confidence to make decisions that feel right by you and your baby.

Best of luck xxxxx

Zippy1510 · 05/08/2020 16:47

The vaccine efficacy is 80%.

AlwaysBelieve19 · 06/08/2020 14:07

@strawberrycheesecake1989 thank you soo much for your reply I have seen some really harsh replies all I just wanted to know is other people's opinions in why they did or didn't get it . I will do anything to protect my unborn child but at the same time as you said I don't want to do anything that will harm them either ❣️
