Aspirin in pregnancy

Has anyone been prescribed aspirin due to high risk of preclampsia? I can't stand the dissolvable tablets they have given me and wondered if anyone's taken just normal ones from the shop instead? Xx

I was told to take aspirin because my sister had preeclampsia. They offered to do a prescription but said the normal 75mg pills you can buy in the shop are fine (I went with the shop bought option)

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 03/08/2020 21:08

Yes the normal ones from the shop are fine as long as the dose is correct.

Hi OP,

I've also been told to take aspirin during pregnancy due to my weight.

I buy the solid aspirin from Asda. I also hate the dissolvable ones.

I was told to take aspirin during my twin pregnancy. I used to take the dissolvable ones in orange juice, and when I had low iron I’d add the spatone to it too.

Didn’t help in my case, I ended up with severe pe!

mobear · 03/08/2020 23:16

I’ve been taking the normal ones. The only advice I was given was on the dosage (75mg).

IlanaWexler · 03/08/2020 23:22

I just take halves of the normal 300mg ones (my midwife advised me that the recommended dose for preeclampsia is 150mg now rather than 75mg)

I thought the ones in the shop were too high a dosage Shock so I've been taking the dissolvable all this time despite my disgust! I hate the texture of them but found that disolving them in a fizzy drink (I use the rose and raspberry lemonade from tesco and dissolve in in a shot glass. Takes away the grainy texture of the tablets I found. 33 weeks now so at as well carry on as I have been

Bemorechicken · 03/08/2020 23:41

I took them in juice and warm juice.
There is much more evidence now that 150mg is far more effective. Your GP should give them to free on prescription whilst you are pregnant. I suffered in all of my pregnancies with preeclampsia. I had to take it whilst trying for DC2. The only I would say is in my case - I suffered with severe hyperemesis gravidarum and I mean severe. In hospital on a drip -and the aspirin made it ten times worse. Awful, really awful. So take with food if you can. This website is really good www.preeclampsia.org/aspirin

Your GP should give them to free on prescription whilst you are pregnant.

This costs the nhs 20x more than it would cost you to buy them in a supermarket so you should only do this if you are in poverty. I only spent about £3 in total for all the aspirin I need for my pregnancy.

Thankyou everyone! I'm going to buy some regular aspirin today ❤️
