Raised Anticardiolipin IgG antibody levels and pregnancy

Hi

Has anyone had or is currently having a successful pregnancy with raised Anticardiolipin IgG antibody levels? I had a late miscarriage at 18 weeks and 3 days in March and after several blood tests I am being referred to a haematology consultant for further investigation
I am now trying to get pregnant again but just wondered if any body had any experience of this and insight/advice as to how it is managed in pregnancy.
The general jist is that blood clots more than it should. From what I've read (without trying to rely on Dr Google so much and scare myself, it is quite manageable and treatable in pregnancy with prescribed doses of aspirin and daily heparin injections

Thank you xx

Hi I had exactly the same problem as you have, although quite a few years ago, I had 2 stillbirths before it was discovered and at that point It came under the Lupus umbrella.
I was very closely monitored, during the later stages of pregnancy I had weekly scans and from very early on was prescribed steroids and aspirins to dampen down the antibodies.
I spent about 8 weeks in hospital being monitored and my son was delivered at 32 weeks. He was quite small and spent a few weeks in the special care baby unit, he is perfect in every way and is now grown up.
My sister had the same problem which was discovered after many miscarriages, she was offered heparin and aspirin, had the same treatment as myself and her son was delivered at 30 weeks.
He was very small but perfect and is also now grown up.
This was all a long time ago so I’m sure they have fine tuned these treatment, someone with more recent experience may be along.
I’m sure you find it daunting and unknown but I do hope this reassures you.
Any more questions just ask.

Thank you for your response

I'm really trying not to Google too much before speaking to the consultant I've been referred to but I'm finding it really hard. I'm terrified of having another miscarriage especially after my pregnancy was perfect up to the point where I was admitted to hospital with pains, being told 2 days later I was in labour and that was it

It does sound scary but I'm trying to be hopeful I can have a successful pregnancy in the future

Xx

A member of my family has a condition called Hughes syndrome which can increase the levels of the antibody you mentioned, because of this I had my levels checked prior to ttc. Mine were ok but had they not been I would probably have been placed on medication to help thin my blood.

High levels of these antibodies make your blood thicker and prone to blood clots which can increase your risk of miscarriages. The risk mostly comes from not knowing a women had it. I have done a lot of reading over the years and there are lots of positive stories out there as well as some heartbreaking ones but these mostly concern the period prior to knowing its a problem.

I hope your consultant will be able to give you some reassurance and advice
