Wanting to find out about mums who have had inductions have your labours been longer?
Was this a 1st 2nd 3rd baby.....
Has it been during covid when was your other half allowed to be with you?
How soon did you get home??
I'm due to chat about induction with consultant due to BP issue a section has been talked about to so Im weighing up the options would love to hear about others experience I've had 3 natural labours 39wks 40wks and 41wks...... I won't be allowed to reach my due date this time because of bp x
First baby. Waters broke Tuesday at 10am. Slow contractions started 8pm Wednesday. Induced 11am Thursday - only half a cm. Baby born by emergency C-section at 2.20am on Friday. By which point I'd only reached 5cm.
Was not during Covid, was 9 years ago.
It was incredibly painful on the drip. I had an epidural, but it didn't take on one side of my groin, so all the pain focused there. I had to have a second one. This meant that when I went for my section, I was topped up, so had to have a spinal block.
I found out during a consultation during my second pregnancy when DS1 was 18 months old that he'd been back to back, which could have been a reason for the lack of progression. I told the consultant that they'd never get me on the drip again but she couldn't guarantee that they wouldn't induce me if I went over, so I opted for an elective section. With age and wisdom, I know now they they couldn't have forced me to do anything and partly wish I'd tried for the natural birth.
Unfortunately, everyone I know IRL that was induced ended up with an EMCS.
Friend. First baby. Failed induction (around 15 hours). EMCS. Second baby born naturally with spontaneous labour.
Sister in law. First baby. Failed induction (20 hours). EMCS
Another friend. First baby. Failed induction (16 hours). EMCS. Think baby number 2 was born without intervention though.
Friend 3. Second baby. Failed induction (can't remember how long). EMCS.
I will say that I didn't get on with gas and air though. It made me vomit, so I didn't get the whole pain relief thing with it. If you've been okay with g&a previously, it could well work for you.
And as far as comparing pain goes, when they stopped the drip for a short period, my contractions were much easier to handle.
Chat with your consultant about strategies used in case of no progression. During my labour, the staff swapped shifts and the night staff wanted to see how I progressed through the night, my DH pointed out that I'd been doing this all day, since well before they came in on shift. At 2am we asked how much longer it could take, we told that if could be another 15 hours based on my current rate of progression. I was already 15 hours in at that point. It was then that I told them to go and get me the Caesarian consent forms. I wasn't allowed any food, and had vomited everything up many hours previously. I had nothing left to give.
