Window to the womb

Hiya! Currently 8 weeks pregnant. Had a scan at 6 weeks due to mmc back in April and everything looked great thankfully!

I've paid to have another scan for 9 weeks just to make sure baby has progressed because I'm petrified of having another mmc (nothing I can do if it happens again I know).

9 week scan will be with window to the womb, what are people's experiences with them? Sonographers? How long do you have? Do you get any pictures/videos to keep? Do you hear the heartbeat?

Also what do your scans look like around 9 weeks if you've had one around that time?

Anything would be great thank you ☺️

Hello,

Sorry to hear of your MMC, I had one last year.

I went to wttw at 10 weeks this time round and they were really good, it was done abdominally and they gave me a photo, plus the kind lady gave me a code for all photos and video and my husband couldnt be there due to covid.

There was quite a big difference compared to my 7 week one, so imagine yours will be similar...she played the heartbeat as well.

I have been to two branches and both good experiences xx

Congrats! I've been to WTWW a few times. They've always been great. Scans are relatively short, about 5-10 mins but they are thorough and walk you through everything. My local clinic send you a link to an app where all the photos are and there's normally around 20. I think you get a few printed to take away as well.

This was mine as 9+4, so definitely baby-like at that point!

I used wttw with my last pregnancy where unfortunately they confirmed a MMC. They were amazing, really kind, rang the hospital to try to get me an appointment with the EPU, let me cry and gave me a hug. I'm 4 weeks pregnant now and if I make it to 8 planning on going back for a svan at the same place.

I had a scan at southampton window to the womb 8 weeks ago at 16 weeks, it was the first week they were allowing 1 other person to come in with you.

The scan was 100% worth it beeing able to have my partner there with me and we heard the heartbeat for the first time together (nhs scans only show the heartbeat not the sound). I had a Male sonographer but was the most loveliest sonographer out of all of them I have ever had! The whole experience was so special and I will never forget it!

I have booked a 4D scan for september so we can see baby together for the last time before he comes as nhs don't scan after 20 weeks unless it's for a reason such as growth scans. I can't wait to see him again!

Congratulations for your pregnancy. Stay positive, it will be ok.
My experience with window to the womb was a very disappointing one unfortunately.
During the scan the sonographer looked like she was taking some measurements on screen but no feedback was given to us whether the measurements were within the normal parameters or not. We didn't want to disturb her during the scan thinking that at least at the end she will do a debrief but it wasn't the case.
At the end of the scan when we saw that there was no intention to give us any feedback , my husband asked if all was ok and we've received a very shory "yes".
Overall we felt like we paid £59 for a Fetal Health Scan just to see the baby on screen. We left the scan worried that something was wrong and the sonographer didn't want to say it to us. No report with the measurements or proof of payment was provided either and the photo was give to us only after I asked as it was mentioned as part of the package. I had to call and chase them via email for the measurements to be sent to us. It was my 1st experience with Window to the womb but it will definitely be the last.
All the best to you.

So sorry for your loss OP and , I suffered a mmc in March but am currently 10 weeks pregnant.

We visited WTTW in Swansea for a 7week scan. They were amazing. They let my hubby in with me as long as we wore masks (we took out own, not sure if they supply them)

They set up a socially distances waiting room and there wasn't many people around as you turn up on time, not before the apt.
We found the staff kind, supportive, just the sort of thing you need when you're anxious.
I had a trans-vaginal scan and I think the whole thing only lasted 15 minutes but we came away very reassured. Not sure what happened at your 6 week scan but on our 7.5 week one we could see the heartbeat, they did a CTR measurement which gave me an approx due date and checked the egg sac etc. (The placenta was still forming, I though the egg sac looked our baby was holding a balloon lol) Not a lot can be checked over at this stage but the sonographer said it was a good sign that everything was looking normal at that stage and a nice strong heartbeat! We couldn't hear it but I imagine with a skilled sonographer you could def hear it at 9 weeks!

We paid a small fee at the end (once we knew all was OK) to download all the pics and a video, I keep staring at them, well worth it!

Good luck for your next scan I'm sure all will be well :)

Sorry for my grammatical/spelling errors! No glasses and no sleep makes for bad English 😂👓

Sho2207 · 03/08/2020 08:19

Thank you for all the responses! The good definitely seems to weigh out the bad here. Literally counting down the days, I'm so excited but also so anxious. Praying everything is ok, I haven't had half as many problems as last time so hopefully this is my time ☺️

Thanks again 😁

Everyone I've heard from seems to have positive experiences of WTTW. However, when I was considering an early scan my community midwife strongly advised against them. She recommended a different local clinic. She said she has had bad experiences of WTTW in the past - she said they are not always very professional, e.g. if there's a problem not provide adequate aftercare, not passing information on etc. That might just be a quirk of where we are though. (Surrey)

Congrats on the pregnancy OP!

I went to WttW at 7 weeks and 9. Had a MC in February so anxiety was high! Saw the heartbeat both times, and couldn’t believe the difference in a 7 week ‘blob’ to the 9 week looking baby!! It was wriggling and waving it’s arms, it was amazing.

I found them very professional, made sure to check there was a heartbeat first before turning the screens on and was thoroughly impressed.

These are my scan pics. Top one obviously 7 weeks 😂

I went to WTTW last time and didn't have a great experience. Sonographer was abrupt and snotty and they lied on the "health check" for saying baby was head down when he was breech (they actually marked off breech then scribbled it out and selected cephalic) - there was a big investigation and they changed their policies and was they complete the forms following this but that didn't change th fact they could have prevented me from attempting a home birth that really shouldn't have been attempted (baby actually felt head down from external palpitation and three midwives missed this).

We went to a different scan place this time, same price. Was nicer because they didn't try and up sell us anything however the pictures were got were not as clear as WTTW.

Hi, did you have to pay extra for the photos and video? Thanks :)
Sho2207 · 16/08/2020 10:37

@gaby0303

Got my phone to hand and saw your message, I paid £10 to have mine onto the bumpies app. From there I just saved them all to my phone because the photos on the app only stay on the app for a certain amount of time ☺️

We went to window to the womb but at 20wks 4days as my partner had not been allowed at NHS scans. I was very impressed with them. As I’d already had my 20wk scan we booked a well-being and gender scan. There was Sonographer and an assistant and they were both friendly and wore masks. Sonographer talked us through as she checked major parts of baby and switched to 4D images too and we got to listen to baby’s heartbeat which had not been able to at NHS as they only show you. We got to pick 4 photos we wanted and the rest were available to download from an app. We were given a free MAM bottle and a baby record book too.

567ap · 16/08/2020 16:50

They are great if you just want reassurance that there's a heart beat etc. They are not trained like what you get at hospital... I had a private one (with partner) at 12 weeks then the nhs one two days later. I was quite shocked at what I learned in the nhs one V's the Window one.
So they're great for heartbeat and a picture.

scotgal99 · 16/08/2020 22:40

I’ve been to WTTW for an early scan & a gender scan. Mainly so that my partner could come in & see. Both experiences have been amazing. Super friendly staff, very thorough report both times & at no extra charge all photos were on the Bumpies app.

I also chose to book my appointments so that they were either the first & last of the day so that there would be no other people in the waiting room!

kittenpeak · 16/08/2020 23:44

I went to WTTW in hackbridge at 8 weeks and they had a very no nonsense methodical approach (sonographer that is, reception were friendly and chatty). I decided to book one as I had absolutely no symptoms and was concerned the pregnancy hadn't stuck.

I confirmed about 4 times (to both sonographer and receptionist) that I was happy for them to scan be vaginally. The sonographer also said "I will conduct this scan in silence" (so that she could fully concentrate, and I assume so that if she went quiet for any reason, I wouldn't necessarily need to be worried).

I actually liked this approach. All I wanted to know was that the pregnancy was progressing well, and that there was a heartbeat.

Good luck x
