My womb moves?

Hi all, just wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this weird phenomenon?

17+1 atm. A few days ago I figured out how to feel my uterus with my hands, and since then I've noticed something. When I first wake up in the morning the top of the uterus (fundus?) is high, near my belly button, but by the time I go to bed it's sink right down to be closer to my pubic hair line. It also feels smaller and harder when it's low down. I think it's too do with lying vs standing as if I lay down for a bit in the day, it seems to move up quite quickly.

I did Google but nothing came up (maybe wrong terms). Is this normal? Has it happened to anyone else?

Thanks for reading xx

could it not just be your baby inside turning at different times of the day e.g. when its sleeping etc? Rather than your whole womb?

Yes, a uterus moves, esp during pregnancy. Look up retroverted uterus and you will see that its common to move. No idea how you can feel it and be sure of what are feeling unless you are a midwife, but yes, it moves.

in the morning when you wake up and your bladder is full, your uterus will be pushed upward by that.

It moves even when you aren't pregnant. If you go for a smear test for example, the position of your cervix can be a little different each time. Depending if your bladder is full, you've recently pooed etc, at least that's what the nurse told me when she couldn't find mine lol

Thanks for the replies everyone.

I've been doing a few experiments and I'm increasingly sure it's gravity. If I lie on my side for a whole, then the whole uterus seems to move down to that side. If I'm sat upright, then it's not only the top of the uterus that moves down but the bottom as well, so that the whole thing is filling my pubic area. I've controlled for bladder (i.e. checked it before going for a wee then half an hour later) and I'm not sure that baby's position would be so consistently affected by my position, nor be so pronounced at this stage.

Just a bit weirded out that gravity seems to make such a difference. Anyone else heard of this?

@Elouera I looked into retroverted uterus but didn't see much reference to the womb moving?

This is totally normal. As you get further along in pregnancy you will notice your baby is higher in the morning and lower at night. It's gravity Grin

I'm 17+4 and the top of my uterus is always just above my belly button when lying down, even higher if my bladder is full and feels even higher when I'm stood up, a lot of things can influence what height your uterus is sitting at, bladder, bloating, gravity etc x

@CoalCraft: this is what I meant by the fact the uterus does indeed move:

' retroverted uterus can require the use of a pessary, or even surgery, but often is as simple as having the pregnant mother sleep on her stomach for a day or two, to allow the retroverted uterus to move forward'

'As your uterus gets bigger, you will feel that it moves less, but you will feel movements from your baby instead!'
