If you had Oligohydramnios...

In my first pregnancy I was diagnosed with oligohydramios. It had been undetected, I went to the hospital to be checked for reduced movements where it was picked up. Thankfully they were very thorough and after scans and ctgs it was discovered my baby was not moving at all, the heart rate was distressed and DC was measuring quite small.
I had an emergency C Section an hour later and thankfully all is well. There were no problems with DC so they chalked it down to an insufficient placenta.
Now I am early days pregnant with DC2 and wondering, had anyone else oligohydramnios in a pregnancy and what happened in subsequent pregnancies? Did it happen again, were you monitored closer in those pregnancies? I can’t seem to find much information and I’d like to be prepared!

You’ll find more information if you look up IUGR or intrauterine growth restriction - sounds like that’s what was happening for you, placental insufficiency which led to the growth problem and the oligohydramnios, rather than oligo being the primary concern if that makes sense?
You should be offered increased surveillance - when you first see a midwife she should go through your previous pregnancy, any other risk factors, and likely refer you to obstetrics for a plan. You’ll probably find scans at least 20/28/32/36 weeks, possibly more. They may discuss aspirin with you (can lower the risk of IUGR but only by 10% or so). The only other thing to mention in terms of things you can change to help is if you’re a smoker - stop.
There’s an RCOG/NICE guideline on this - called either management of small for gestational age or IUGR, can’t remember - google should find it for you.

When I spoke to the midwife she didn’t mention anything about IUGR, I actually haven’t heard of it so I’ll have a look now, thanks so much!
As for smoking - thankfully it was never something I picked!

If your baby was small then it most likely was IUGR - if I misunderstood and not small then possible some th ing else was going on

Yes the hospital considered them to be small for her age, would it be an issue that is a once off or would it be more likely to happen again do you think?

Increased risk of happening again but that doesn’t mean it will for sure. Just means needs watching. Hope all goes well :)
