Change in movements

Hi guys,

I'm 34 weeks and usually baby is quite active and strong with her kicks and movements, however since yesterday her movements have been a lot lighter. I tried everything this morning to get her moving and only got a few light movements.

I've been trying to get through to the hospital all morning but the line is busy and in the past 30 minutes she's been moving her usual amount.

I was wondering if anyone has any advice? Is it common for movements to change around this time? Should I go into the hosptial anyway?

Thank you

I've had a couple of episodes of reduced movements and annoyingly both times baby has moved loads as soon as I've got to the hospital!
As baby has started moving now, what I would do personally is just track the times of the movements over the next couple of hours. If your still not happy after that go and get checked but you may find when your keeping track of it (written down) you're happy. Don't hesitate if not though.

I wouldn't hesitate to go in. My midwife couldn't have been more clear on this - no matter what - if you are concerned then go in. If you can't get hold of the ward do you have some type of pregnancy advice lien run by midwives?

That's what happened to me last time! It's like as soon as they get to the hospital, they're active again! Yeah that seems like a good idea, I'm going to really keep track of her movements this afternoon

Even if she is moving normally again now I would still advise you to go and be monitored. Better to be safe than sorry. I'm a community midwife. I bore myself with how often I ask my women to get in touch if any change in pattern or anxiety about movements. It's true that usually as soon as those belts for the monitors go on babies start break dancing but in a tiny minority of cases it can be life saving.

I totally agree and have already been in twice but it's hard because I was concered earlier but now I'm not really as she seems to be moving normally. So I'm thinking does it matter that she was doing lighter movements earlier and would that be enough reason to go in, even if I'm not worried now. I also have an anterior placenta but not sure if that effects movements as much as shes quite big now.

It would also be quite hard to get there, so have to weigh up the risks of going to a busy place (I'm being very strict about social distancing)
