Tips and tricks for morning sickness

Hi guys
I am 6 weeks pregnant (first timer 🙋) and morning sickness kicked in a few days ago and is in full swing! Does anyone have any tips or tricks or advice for coping with morning sickness?

I know some people have the bracelets that apparently help, I've got some ginger biscuits but wanted to see if anyone else had any thoughts that worked for them?

I'm always grateful in a way when I get it as apparently it's a good sign!

Plain rich tea biscuits and flat coke. I was lucky and was never sick but on the odd days that I felt nauseous that's what I had and it really helped.
Plenty of water and ginger crystals from somewhere like Holland & Barratt that you can suck on!
Fingers crossed it doesn't last too long for you!

I was never sick but experienced 24hr nausea for weeks. I did try the travel sickness bands but for me they weren't great. Try to eat little and often rather than having big meals, I often didn't feel much like eating but did find it was worse with low blood sugar - bland foods were better for me but I know everyone is different. To be honest I was always grateful when I could take a nap during the day time to make time pass quicker!

It's not much fun, hope it does not last too long.

The moment I woke up I had a plain rich tea biscuit to just help line my stomac which somewhat helped.

My main thing was ice lollies, at one point this was the only way I could stop feeling sick at all.

Not the healthiest but I have a pack of Fruit Pastilles or Wine Gums with me at all times, when I feel the nausea coming on I put one in my mouth to suck. Has stopped me throwing up a few times!

Ice lollies 100%, the nausea is definitely worse for me when my blood sugar is low and a lolly helps somewhat to allow me to eat a small meal after, flat coke also, crackers and cheese and cereal is my staple diet at the moment! X

Ginger biscuits

Plain or ginger biscuit before I even got out of bed. Get up slowly. Keep something on hand to nibble on, I kept a tub of raisins at work so I could have a couple every 20-30 minutes just to keep my stomach from getting empty. Dry toast, or crackers.

Very very flat full fat coke. Not anything diet

I had to take medication with DC 1 between week 5-25, with DC 2 it wasn't as bad and I was only sick until midway. I found it went in waves through the day and afternoon was usually the worst for feeling ill, but morning I would be repeatedly suddenly sick.

Ginger and bands didn't help. I became very sensitive to smells, mint and lemon helped, spicy smells made it worse. Plain room temperature soft potatoes and bread and butter helped (and not the worst if you see them again). Bizarrely I couldn't open my fridge or freezer or go through the cold areas in supermarkets without gagging, so if watch out for unexpected triggers.

Eat something as soon as I wake up and always have something in my tummy. I ate a lot of rich tea biscuits with my first DD and lemonade was the only drink I could stomach at times with my DS. Also eat what appeals to you and don’t beat yourself up if it’s not the healthiest

Magpiefeather · 28/07/2020 19:33

Yes don’t ever let yourself have an empty stomach. Dry crackers were my go to thing (boring I know). Munched a few before getting out of bed like pp. also when drinking water sip don’t gulp down a whole glass. Could no longer have a cup of tea first thing.

Avoid eating anything that you don’t fancy. Anytime I “made” myself eat something I didn’t fancy (I’m looking at you spaghetti and meatballs dh lovingly made), I instantly threw them up.

Always carry a sick bag, especially a reachable-while-driving one (ask me how I know....)

Good luck op. The good thing is it does end!

The only thing that helped my morning sickness was food . And it was the last thing I wanted so I really had to force myself to eat first thing every morning . I used to eat crackers , apples, handfuls of dry cereal . Then during the day snack a lot and never let yourself go hungry . If you can manage healthy snacks that’s even better but honestly , don’t stress too much about that !!!’

I couldn't stomach Coke and ginger made me feel even more sick!
I used to cut slices of lemon, squeezed in warm water x

Baked potatoes. Definitely never toast, for me.
