Hi :)

I’m just wondering what happens at the appointment. I know they take a blood test then give you a glucose drink then take bloods again 2 hours later.

I’m just wondering what happens in the 2 hours wait? Do you have to stay in the hospital or are you allowed to leave and come back again?

Hi
I recently had a test but due to covid they didn't do the glucose drink they just did 1 blood test (non fasting)
Prior to covid, I had to wait around in between blood tests. I would ring them to be sure it is a fasting blood test and they'll give you the drinks x

I’d phone your hospital to check OP.

I had the appointment letter through telling me to fast, that I would have the bloods, then the glucose etc and would be there for two hours.

When I turned up it was just the single blood test due to covid. I’d fasted until 4pm for nothing! They also said I could have called to rearrange to have it with My 28 week bloods two days later - I didn’t know! I Wish I’d Called in advance!

Most trusts have scrapped it for the single test as they don’t want people hanging round the hospital for two hours.

Yes, definitely double check. Mine was just a single blood test too

LBB2020 · 27/07/2020 13:18

You have to sit and wait during the 2 hours. They don’t like you walking around or anything like that so I’d take a book or something to keep you occupied!

Thanks ladies :)

My appointment is at 9 in the morning so I don’t have to fast for to long thankfully. I would be eating my fingers if my appointment was at 4 o’clock 😂.

Il just go with the flow in the morning since it’s first thing and if I don’t need to hang about for 2 hours it will be a bonus!

In my area they have just changed back to the full GTT

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 27/07/2020 13:29

I've to go for one in October. No chance I'll be able to fast, I get very faint and I'll if I don't eat every couple of hours.

Ek3009 · 27/07/2020 16:41

Well hospital just off the phone checking no Covid symptoms etc and Iv got the glorious fasting test 😩 and will be in for 2 hours but my husband is allowed to come with me now so that’s a bonus :)

i had the blood test done rather than the glucose test but i had to fast for 6 hrs. I am worried because that blood test is quite unreliable, even the drs admit it.

I just took a book as they preferred you not to be too 'active' at the clinic I was at. I'd wanted to go back to work as I work in the hospital, only a few min walk from the clinic but they said no.

I had mine a few weeks ago and was tested three times at one hour intervals. I had thought there would be a 2-hour gap so I could nip home but I was surprised when I arrived to learn this was not the case.
