Accidentally used L'Occitane conditioner with essential oils

This is going to sound daft but I grabbed my usual conditioner by accident and it was only after use and smelling it that I realised it had essential oils in....

All I can see is lavender, sweet almond oil, sunflower seed oil and orange oil/extract.

I know you have to avoid certain ones and I can't see any of those were on the avoid list (I'm 19 weeks so in second trimester).

Has anyone else done this? I'm kind of calm but slightly concerned... not sure what I'd be looking out for by way of issues if it had caused any anyway... what do essential oils do?

I rang L'Occitane and they said they don't advise any of their products are used in pregnancy which isn't very clearly advertised anyway!

In this case “essential oils” will just be a marketing wank word for fragrance. Everything you use has fragrance unless it’s unscented and even then it will have fragrance to cancel out the normal smells of the active ingredient. Sometimes the fragrance is natural (and they get to call it essential oil) and sometimes it’s synthesised. In either case you have nothing to worry about here.

You'll be absolutely fine.

Are you in the UK? If so follow the NHS guidelines.

Shayisgreat · 25/07/2020 20:49

It's fine. I'm pretty sure the advice is not to rub certain essential oils on yourself and to definitely use a carrier oil. Essential oils in products is fine - especially lavender and lemon.

sel2223 · 25/07/2020 22:23

Is this even a thing in the uk? I'm 37 weeks and still using my usual hair products.

pandafunfactory · 25/07/2020 22:24

This is not a problem. You should avoid clary sage but frankly it smells vile so no risk of accidental usage.

GreyishDays · 25/07/2020 22:25

You probably didn’t put it on your skin? I don’t think inhaling a bit of lavender etc is going to be an issue.

StylishMummy · 25/07/2020 22:25

You only need to avoid Clary Sage oil/extract in a bath, as it can soften the cervix. Shower, hair products and body wash are all fine. You sound slightly over anxious

Shayisgreat · 25/07/2020 22:28

@pandafunfactory haha clary sage reminds me of the uncomfortable last few days of pregnancy when I was trying to start labour. Can't open the bottle anymore without bringing back the memories of discomfort.

Thank you all. With my first there wasn’t any such warnings about anything and was surprised L’Occitane advising me not to use anything from their range. Lesson learned but I think they’re being over cautious by the sounds. Maybe they think saying don’t use anything safe guards them.

I had a massage when I was about 10 weeks, didnt think to even check whether it was okay. She sloshed loads of essential oils on me & was burning them in the room as well. Long story short baby fine. Honestly think of all the women who dont even know they're pregnant for months and do all these things!

acquiescence · 25/07/2020 23:24

I use lavender oil on my pillow every night and an essential oil roller often. I had to idea I wasn’t supposed to, it this a thing?

LJEva · 25/07/2020 23:43

As my mum always says... it’s a wonder anyone had babies years ago 😂 don’t even get me started on trying to find a non chemical sunscreen lol

I work in a spa and will be massaging clients daily with essential oils I wouldn't worry
