Still being sick at 18 weeks, is this harming my baby? So scared

I have suffered with sickness since around 5 weeks. It was massively worse in the first trimester however I am still violently sick every other day usually after my main meal. I know I shouldn’t but I’ve read articles online which have said sickness in the second trimester can cause complications 😞 is there any truth to this? I’m quite petite anyway and I’m barely showing and have not gained much weight at all. At 12 scan they were not concerned by my weight but I’m worried now it may be an issue.

A few of my friends were sick all the way through their pregnancy's and their babies came out happy and healthy!
Unfortunately some people just suffer but if you're concerned then speak to your GP.
They might give you some anti sickness medication if you're struggling

Sorry you're feeling rough OP,
I was sickened every day until 6 months and then every other day until 8 months with my DD,
I lost weight in the first 3/4 months because of the sickness and was late to show
But she is absolutely fine!
Nice weight when she was born and is full of sass and character, try not to be hard on yourself and worry. The baby will get what it needs

Sick not sickened Hmm

Hi @Sunshine1996 I was sick for my whole pregnancy with my first daughter and she was born a healthy 6lb4. It’s horrible but your baby will be fine. If you are at all concerned though I would advise you speak to your gp though as they prescribe anti sickness medication. I hope it clears up for you soon.

I’m 7 weeks with my 3rd and the morning sickness is making itself known. Just hoping it disappears soon 😩

I was sick up until around the 6 month mark (I lost a stone over about a month) and my 8lb5oz baby is very happy now. He won’t go to sleep right now, but that’s not connected!

Please make sure that you’re getting help with the sickness. If you get told that there is none then ask someone else until you get medication and reassurance. I promise it’ll end and you’ll think it was all worth it.

Only harming you. Baby is grand OP

GeorgeTheFirst · 25/07/2020 19:53

Bless you. No it's not harming your baby. Baby will get everything it needs - at your expense. Look after yourself, the baby will be fine.

GeorgeTheFirst · 25/07/2020 19:54

And start eating little and often, so you don't have a main meal xx

MrsB2019x · 25/07/2020 20:13

I do feel for you, it must be horrendous!

My Mum was hideously sick with me until I was born, only could keep down salad really. She left hospital after giving birth in her pre-pregnancy jeans as everything else fell off her. I was 7lb5 and absolutely fine!

I would see your GP to see if they can get something to help you though as it must make you feel rotten.

Laura0589 · 25/07/2020 20:26

O bless you! That’s so hard! I’ve been sick since week 6 and now 25weeks and still sick. I’m on anti sickness meds which work well, so well I keep thinking I don’t need them- but it doesn’t take long for it to return if I forget one! I’d definitely recommend the NICE Guidelines for sickness in pregnancy, read it before talking to the GP it’ll be helpful for decision making about medicines/rest.

It won't happen your baby as they'll take any nutrients from you so they won't be going without but it could affect you.

Its worth speaking to your midwife/GP if it's still pretty frequent just to make them aware that you might need some extra hydration/supplements and they can prescribe anti-sickness meds if necessary.

Try not to overdo it, eat little and often - don't worry about what you're eating, if you can keep it down then go for it!

I became travel sick to the point where I walked everywhere I could to avoid it, I was also hospitalised and put on an IV drip twice and spewing on the ward waiting for my section with a 1lb weight gain but DD was absolutely fine :)

crazychemist · 25/07/2020 20:42

I was sick throughout with my DD, she was absolutely fine. I felt like utter crap! They take what they need from you, so I wouldn’t worry about your baby being affected. Do try and stay hydrated if you can. Have you spoken to your GP? This time round I have cyclizine, which doesn’t work amazingly, but does take the edge off a bit.

I was still being sick till around 20 weeks then it stopped pretty much overnight but has come back again in the third trimester.

My sister was sick all the way through her pregnancy and even broke her waters while projectile vomiting at 39 weeks.

Sunshine1996 · 26/07/2020 07:31

Thank you so much for all your reassuring replies, this has made me feel so much better! Some really good advice here, think I will contact my GP. So grateful to be pregnant but it can be tough!

In case it's helpful, I was also being really sick until 17 weeks - mentioned it to my doctor who said at this stage it's likely reflux (rather than the same morning sickness in first trimester)... gave me some Omeprazole and it's helped so much!!
