Hi all,

I need a little advice here im unsure if to ring 111 as not sure its emergency but I have had a migrane for more than a day and told my OH to grab me some nurofen instead of paracetamol without thinking, i have taken two and whilst doing housework my heart dropped i remembered I cant take them... I am in such a state I already had MC a yr ago im booked in for 6 wk scan next week and now fretting even more, read some things on here that people took it without knowing they were pregnant and had successful ones and that its more harmful in 3rd trimester etc but I am a worried wreck now feel so stupid 😞
Is it most likely to be ok?

I did that too in last pregnancy as didn't realise I was pregnant. It is fine as a one off.

Brieminewine · 25/07/2020 17:11

It should be fine, 111 won’t be able to do anything, just try not to worry about it there’s nothing you can do about it now.

MoreCookiesPlease · 25/07/2020 17:14

It's a one off, you'll be fine.

Thanks ladies an update on this NHS 111 referred me to a pharmacist she asked why i did that, and said it causes harm from early to late and said she isnt sure I will be ok to let dr and midwife know, she was so so rude I feel so much worse now!!

You really will be fine. It’s a shame the pharmacist didn’t put your mind at rest. The day I found out about my second (unplanned) pregnancy I’d spent the day pretty much eating stuff you’re not supposed to eat and I was on medication that is not allowed in pregnancy. Obviously from that point onwards I stuck to the “guidance” but once something is done the best thing is to just try not to worry about it!

I used voltirol on my back when I was about six weeks pregnant (not a tablet but still ibuprofen and didn't read the leaflet before using it). I was fine, mentioned to my midwife at the booking appointment and she told me not to worry. My baby son is 5 months and absolutely fine.Smile

It is really unlikely that one dose is going to do anything. The pharmacist sounds like they really just wanted to stick the boot in.

Before 30 weeks, ibuprofen can cause some complications but it is really very unlikely.

From the NHS;

*What if I have already taken ibuprofen?

If you have taken ibuprofen occasionally before you were 30 weekspregnant, it's unlikely tohave affected your unborn baby.

Ifyou have taken ibuprofen after youwere 30 weeks pregnant, let your GP or midwife know, as your baby's wellbeing in the womb will need to be assessed.*

Don’t listen to the pharmacist! I was told off by a pharmacist at Boots for buying ibeprophen while breastfeeding. Wtf ! They refused to sell it to me . I couldn’t believe it . And they were wrong too !!!

Nhs actually say it’s not that big of a deal ! Google nhs and ibeprophen and you will see . Obviously it’s not ideal but it’s not a big deal in early pregnancy!

Helenknowsbest · 25/07/2020 18:20

As others have said. Its only really going to be a problem if you're continually taking it but as a one off won't be anything to worry about. I had some in last pregnancy for one day and it dawned on me after I'd had 6 (terrible headache all day). X

Thank you @helenknowsbest for your reassurance I appreciate it x

It was prescribed for me throughout my pregnancy- not ideal, but also not the end of the world.
Taking into account this I'm sure a one off will probably not be a problem

EnidFromGuernsey · 25/07/2020 19:30

I was told it was to do with the blood supply through the umbilical cord. It can temporarily make the tubes contract - many women took it for many years prior to realisation of the problem with healthy babies. It's just now it has been realised it's advisable as a precaution to avoid it, not a disaster- more of a not really good for baby situation
