you could try looking on birthlight.com.

A good fried on mine does a yoga class in Hatch End on a Monday night if you're interested. It's not specifically for pregnancy, but I'm 32 weeks along and Ally fits it round all shapes and circumstances. It's at 7.30pm behind the main street in the Scout Hut. Good luck

missbumpy · 30/09/2007 22:50

Don't know how west you are but I go to a good class in Finsbury Park here.

dal21 · 01/10/2007 08:30

triyoga in primrose hill does fab ones.

The Active Birth Centre in Archway is fab, has the real 'gurus' working out of there, but also some other lovely ladies. They have an excellent programme during the day and evening and have loads of classes for after the birth too, eg yoga again or baby massage, etc, etc. They have their own website, google Active Birth Centre. It was 7 years since I went there but I'm sure it's still excellent because of all the big names attached.

yogimum · 01/10/2007 12:38

Triyoga, active birth centre, and yoga junction have all got a great reputation. Wish I lived in London sometimes, so much choice.

slim22 · 01/10/2007 12:39

Tryoga in primrose hill.
spent hours in there after work! They have amazing instructors who are mums or doulas in training.
Try Nadia's class. great workout and quite challenging with lots of mother earth chanting. really good fun.
Ayala's class is great for breathing and inner peace.I could hear her voice while delivering DS!

Please avoid Triyoga (shudders at memory of going there). The building/set up is lovely but the teachers are not pleasant. Never have I met people who adore themselves to the extent those yoga teachers do.

Have many examples of their utter grimness but one is I had to leave the mum and baby yoga class because dd was crying and very upset - we were having a bad day. The usual teacher happened to be away. The next week the usual teacher gave an impassioned speech about how "certain people" had walked out of her class because she was not there and we really have to learn to manage without her sometimes (snigger). Have not been back.

Also its £13 a class and they always finish 15 mins early.

slim22 · 01/10/2007 12:51

soory to hear that kerala, I've only ever had the best experience....

kerala · 01/10/2007 13:02

Well to be fair I didnt go to the pregnancy yoga classes as I had spd so cant say what those are like.

Though just remembering at another class there the teacher saying to everyone "now time to the the x move" then, still to everyone, but directed at dh "except you of course, you wont be able to manage it". He hasnt been back either...

yogimum · 01/10/2007 13:09

kerala, sorry to hear about your experience. I've only been to workshops there when my teachers from Australia are over here. Unfortunately even in yoga you get the prima donas and the houlier than thou attitude types which is extremely irritating and not yogic at all. I have been around the best of them I can tell you.

slim22 · 01/10/2007 13:18

I had SPD too from 4 months and yoga helped me manage the pain. The teachers knew and made sure I did not overstretch on certain poses.
But then again I was a regular, so maybe helps build up relationship.

kerala · 01/10/2007 13:22

Yes maybe. But personally found them far from welcoming.

My spd was abit beyond the help of yoga as was on crutches and couldnt walk. But was sad about not doing pregnancy yoga as had looked forward to doing that but was not to be.

beforesunrise · 01/10/2007 18:55

check out birthlight website and if you can go to Francoise's classes in a dingy basement on pentonville road. she is the founder of birthlight and a really amazing person. She has helped me soooooo much throughout my pregnancy and afterwards, i wish she was my mum :-)

Whereabouts in NW London PurlyQueen? Like some have said, Triyoga in Primrose Hill does good ante-natal classes but these get very crowded.

A much more chilled out and also slightly cheaper option is the Special Yoga Centre on Wrentham Avenue in Kensal Rise. Classes tend to be only around 5 or 6 students so much more personal; teachers very friendly. They do lots of antenatal stuff and also good for postnatal classes, mother and baby things etc.

Check them out. Sure they have a website but not quite sure what the web address is. Google it.

PurlyQueen · 01/10/2007 20:16

Oooh - I live in Dollis Hill (NW10). I'll check out the Special Yoga centre - thanks!

beforesunrise, yes francoise is really lovely. I trained in baby yoga with birthlight and they are all lovely and friendly.

MabelMay · 01/10/2007 21:45

Great, PurlyQueen. Hope you enjoy it if you make it there.
Think they do day classes on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays - and evening classes on Wednesdays, maybe Mondays too.

PurlyQueen · 02/10/2007 15:43

Fantastic - I can't wait to get down there.

Thanks for your help!

Also, if you ever come into town the Triyoga centre in Soho (newish branch) does weekly mat yoga. I really enjoyed them last year.

PurlyQueen · 30/10/2007 18:03

Thank you to everyone who suggested the Special Yoga Centre in NW10. I attended my first pregnancy yoga class this afternoon and it was just what I was looking for - chilled and with a lovely atmosphere!
