What are your non-essential but ‘nice to have’ baby items

Currently sorting things for little one who is due in the next couple of months.
I think I’m sorted in terms what I need for essential items but I was wondering if anyone, who perhaps had a bit of a left over budget for things, had any things that might not have been needed but were just lovely to have.
Anything that would be nice for baby or me?
Just looking for ideas really. Thank you :-)

Sleepyhead. I didn’t get the newborn size but bought the Sleepyhead Grand second hand when transitioning to the big cot, and DS goes out like a light in it Hmm might be a coincidence but if you have the budget, get one.

A morrk push chair/car seat blanket. The straps hook through it and it can’t fall out. Genius.

@WeeScottishWife bonds are the best. Try joining a few 'preloved girls clothes' or 'boys clothes' on Facebook. Full price they're about £20 each, but you can buy or sell second hand for £10/12 each. They hold that value too. They honestly are lovely, so comfy and stretchy and seem to last for ages.

@prettylittlelady if you are into bright, gender neutral baby clothing, check out Duns Sweden or other 'scandi' clothing. It's all organic cotton, holds its value for resale and is so, so cute- they even do matching mama stuff if you're into that. Again, join the Facebook groups for preloved. This stuff is expensive new, but again holds its value and lasts so well it can be passed down tons of kids.

Some great ideas here. Giant muslins are great - versatile and there are loads of pretty designs. A bouncer chair is always useful with a newborn - my two loved the one with the vibrate setting which went for 20 mins so enough time for a cuppa / quick shower. For you - some decent skincare stuff. I treated myself to a No 7 bundle with my Christmas money which included day and night cream, a serum, eye cream etc. I can rarely be bothered to put on make up when I'm on mat leave but some nice creams can make you feel a bit pampered with minimal effort. Also perfume or body spray - you get sick of smelling like sour milk after a while plus I'm always really sweaty after delivery (sorry!).
@MOR19 where’s the discount code for those mats?
If you sign up to the T&T emails on their website they send you a code. It’s usually £10 off but £20 until midnight tonight I think....I’m currently trying to justify a second one Hmm

Some would call it an extra but a sling was essential for me.

PacaPod nappy bag. My friend said just use any bag so I started off with an messenger bag that I already had but I just lost everything when rummaging one handed. Loved that the pacapod had a nappy pod and a feeding pod so everything was easy to find. Plus they also can clip to the pram handle separately if you need to carry extra stuff in the main bag.

Zip up dressing gown. Got mine from marks actually I have 2 because I could bear to be without it when it needed washing. Kept me warm during night feeds.

Thought of another one! Now this is definitely not a cool look. I've kept mine secret out of embarrassment GrinBut if you choose to (or end up doing out of necessity) co-sleep/bed share, I found myself getting cold because you can only really have covers below your waist...so I bought one of these www.slumbersac.co.uk/adult-sleeping-bag-with-feet-stars.html so while it's not fun, this has probably benefited me the most out of all my purchases!

Rainbowchampagne · 25/07/2020 21:36

@WeeScottishWife they have some in Asda that are more affordable!

On the Tiba + Marl note again, I’ve had mine 2 years and use it daily, it still looks brand new.

Also because they’re leather you just wipe them down when dirty.

Honestly worth every penny

Omg thank you! Coslept with baby 1 but he was a spring baby so I didn’t need a duvet (2018 heatwave!). This one is due Nov and I was worrying about what to do if she’s also a cot refuser - this looks ideal!
