Maternity bras for large breasts

Hi all

Can anyone recommend good quality, supportive, comfortable maternity bras for large breasts?

I'm 5'2" and my bust size prior to pregnancy was 32E.
However, I'm currently 16 weeks pregnant and my breasts have ballooned and look absolutely ridiculous! They are massive and I feel like I look like a cartoon. I really don't like them and I'm very self-conscious of them. I have visible bump now and it doesn't cause me any issues when trying to sleep.. but my breasts make me so uncomfortable Sad

Most underwear shops are still closed so options are a bit limited at the moment. I think I will visit M&S for a fitting to find out my current correct size (watermelon!)

Please.. any recommendations on maternity bras for large breasts??

Thanks in advance!
TruffleMama xx

Don't worry op, I was just in a cranky mood

I think what the PPs saying 32 doesn't seem right for a size 6 mean is that you've probably been measured using the old method where you add 4 to your underbust measurement to get your band size.

Try measuring using Boob or Bust.

I'd recommend Hot Milk too

Quoting myself to add that obviously that may not be the case for you! But v often when someone is a size 12 and claims to be a 36 band they should really be in a 32!

@TruffleMama I feel you, I was 32GG before getting preggers (now 18 weeks) and mine have just exploded. Even my DP said the other oh my god your boobs are huge. Like yeah I know!

I've bought some non wired bras from M&S that are quite structured and secure. And for sleeping I use some soft crop top type things from Sainsbury's.

I'm dreading my milk coming in 😥😥

Oh and by the way I'm a size 10! Top and bottom. I don't know why some PPs have such an issue with your bra size 🙄

Mummyofmay2020 · 25/07/2020 15:39

John lewis worked for me

NameChange30 · 25/07/2020 15:40

I don't have an issue with it at all! It's just that as beautifulxdisasters, if someone's band size is large compared to their dress size, it's usually because they've been measured wrong (often by M&S). But of course we are all different shapes and sizes so it is possible.

Hope I didn't offend you OP, I didn't mean to. FWIW there are some women who want to be tiny everywhere but with huge boobs and get expensive surgery to achieve the boobs! Anyway hopefully yours will go back to normal, mine did after I stopped breastfeeding DC1 and I'm hoping they will again 🤞

I'm a 36H. Hotmilk was the only brand that remotely fitted or felt comfortable.

ALew15 · 25/07/2020 16:37

This post is really helpful.
I'm also 5'2 and a size 12/14, currently wearing a 36F but the cup is getting a bit snug. Wearing M&S wireless bras, also have a ASDA one which is quite comfortable. Failing that it's the soft crop tops, not supportive but comfy. (I'm only 6weeks so dreading how big they're going to get xx

I do wish that bra fitting was included in schools. It is such a skill to have. I don't know how M&S and places getting away with such bad fitting. Out of curiosity once I got measured with them to see how far out they would be I was a 30D at the time and they put me in a 34B at a size 6 top. The whole bra was loose and the straps didn't stay up.
My sister worked for a lingerie shop so taught me how to measure and fit myself, handy as my boobs are the first and last place I lose weight so I have quite a range of bras! It helps to know whether to trust the measurement of the fitter or not. I partly think that shops put people in large backsizes because they are the sizes they have on offer - I find it really annoying when shops stock size 6 clothes but their underwear range starts at a 34!

@ALew15 if it is reassuring my boobs had a growth spurt during the first few weeks then the growth has slowed right down - a little bit of growth but matching my weight in gain. I'm now 37 weeks and they are growing a bit more again. The early growth rate wasn't maintained!

ALew15 · 25/07/2020 17:34

@Superscientist that is reassuring but I just know I'm going to balloon! 😂 I'm suffering with terrible nausea at the moment, it feels like the worlds longest hangover. I can't bare anything right around my stomach so it's floaty dresses and crop tops for me!

ALew15 · 25/07/2020 17:35

Tight around my stomach that was meant to say

roarfeckingroar · 25/07/2020 17:49

Oh OP I feel you. I was a size 8 30E pre pregnancy and I'm now too big for the 32Fs I bought in earlier pregnancy. I've been wearing soft crop tops because my ribs are really sore at the back. I'm going to look up Bravado.

Quackersandcheese3 · 25/07/2020 17:50

Have a look at Molke. They were super bras for when I was breastfeeding. I think that they designs not really my thing but the comfort and ease of using them was amazing .

Whiffle77 · 25/07/2020 17:56

Thanks for the boob or busy recommendation, although it did tell me I was a HH!!! 😬 already bought bigger bras in the first trimester as they grew so much, but now at 21 weeks I am busting out of them! Really hoping they dont keep going else this will get very expensive! My bump is just about poking out further than my boots now which makes me feel better! I have just bought a couple from brastop as they have good deals OP - I'm reluctant to spend mega bucks on nursing bras yet as I'm sure they will grow again

roarfeckingroar · 25/07/2020 18:01

Argh why are bras so expensive

ForeverHomeSearcher · 25/07/2020 18:35

My ribcage expands straightaway when pregnant. I went up two back sizes within a few weeks. I didn't seem to expand too much more than that though. Definitely filling the cup more as well at 10 weeks.

I had a sugar candy nursing one from my last pregnancy which was good. It'd be nice to have something with slightly thinner straps and cups that didn't come up so high but probably unlikely.

Which hotmilk bras do people recommend?

To add to the m&s fitting convo, I was measured a 38b. At the time I was wearing a 38d bra that was hanging off me. Bravissimo measured me as a 34 e/f. Made such a difference to my figure and waistline having a properly fitted bra. They also do cup sized clothes. The quality is a little hit and miss so aim for the sales. But it is nice to have a few things that fit properly.

lookingatthings · 25/07/2020 18:55

Haven't read the full thread but as someone who went from a pre pregnancy / nursing 34E to a post pregnancy (and now pregnant again) 38GG I feel your pain and thoroughly recommend hotmilk UK. The Flexi wire bras are so comfortable and lift me to where I need to be so I don't look like a complete blob. 10/10

sleighride5 · 25/07/2020 19:15

I found HotMilk to be great...BUT only their full cup ones...I was 38G/H post baby. They do a flexiwire which is great and offers lots of support. I did not get on with the balcony/plunge ones from HotMilk at all.

Also Debenhams did a wireless one...pack of two. Stretchy material...think I got the XL and in the house when I don't have to look "perky" they are sooooo comfy.
