Reduced movements 38 weeks

I'm currently 37+6. So I was in hospital yesterday for reduced movements to which a doctor said he would like for me to be monitored every 48 hours until they could get me in for a scan. I'm due back at the hospital tomorrow morning, Monday morning and then on Wednesday morning I have a scan followed by appointment with doctor. However, I had to go back in today because of reduced movements and they've asked that I still go back in tomorrow for monitoring aswell.

My c section is booked for 3 August when I'll be 39+2, do you think this is likely to change?

I have to go up to triage/delivery suite tomorrow for monitoring.

Has anyone else gone through this?

Thanks

Hard to say, but based on what's happened with a couple of friends I think they may well bring it forward. I actually think if you are concerned and the doctors want to monitor every day then you ought to push for an earlier C-section yourself.

Yes I had to go in daily for monitoring as baby was measuring small and I had an episode of reduced movements. I had a scan and they said my fluid was low so they booked me in to be induced two days later. Baby came that night of his own accord. I was 37+5

Thank you both.

The scan is quite a while away and I feel anxious and on edge as it is but apparently that was the earliest they could do. Is there anyway I can push them to do it sooner so I can atleast be put at ease and know my baby is OK.

Also, will they even agree to c section before 39 weeks without having a scan or will they make me wait for scan first and then take action from there?

Thank you for your help

Also, forgot to mention I have an active case of genital herpes at the moment hence the reason for c section.

This also makes me feel on edge incase he decides to come before then and then I've got to rush to get to hospital before it's too late.

A lot of worrying right now which probably don't help my situation!

I'd make sure your bag is in the car just in case!

I think how you're feeling about things will play a big factor, in terms of your level of anxiety. If you presented yourself as an 'emergency' and camped in triage then they'd rustle something up I believe. In the meantime if you are genuinely concerned about low movements then just get yourself in. Don't worry that you'd be wasting their time or that you'll be going on the next day anyway. Just go.

Possibly. I was induced after three episodes of reduced movement (was also overdue). They’re often quite cautious and if they have capacity to bring your c section forward, there’s a reasonable chance they will.

If baby has persistent reduced movements then you deserve either urgent delivery or an urgent scan, regardless of whether the CTG monitoring is normal.
If it’s just been one or two episodes of reduced movements but actually you think baby is pretty much moving normally in between then that’s a little different.
If you continue to be worried about movements then as PP have said, consider “camping out” until they give you either a scan or an earlier CS.
And to reassure - if this is a herpes recurrence (eg you had it before pregnancy as well) then chances of transmission to baby are very very low even if you delivered vaginally. Unlikely things would go that fast anyway but hope that helps!

Wowcherarestalkingme · 24/07/2020 19:12

Agree with PP about transmission being low if this isn’t your first outbreak. Are you on acyclovir?

I don't want to worry you and am not putting it to do that but please advocate for you and your baby! A friend has just birthed a baby that was sleeping as was left too long! 99% of babies with reduced movement are fine however you just never know! My baby was born 7 months ago at 38+5 after weeks of monitoring extra scans etc and each time getting worse but been told to hold on I eventually broke down and said enough is enough when they said if blood supply to placenta was above 95% they would take baby there and then and having a scan and it coming back at +99% been told to wait till Monday (joke right) I licked of and baby was taken next day been born in the 8th centile with her foot wrapped tht tightly round the cord that it had restricted growth and blood flow (scans didn't pick up!) I was later told of baby had been left she may not have made it!
Please don't think I have put this to worrry you but waiting till over 39 weeks seems silly but some doctors will say to do so!
Please advocate for yourself and baby stay safe xx

That’s devastating @lastbany, your poor friend

Mothertoone2 · 24/07/2020 23:09

Thanks ladies for all your advice. Since this post I had a bath to calm myself and ever since then baby has been literally none stop he's still going now, I've barely had a break since about 7pm. What a massive difference, strange, but I'm glad he's making it obvious he's there now.

Im sorry to hear that @lastbany what a horrible experience to go through, thank you for letting me know

Ahh so been up since 5:45 and no movements as of yet, so annoying how he can be so active last night to nothing again this morning. Well I'm in for monitoring today anyway in the triage.i might ask if they can do my pre op today instead of next Saturday and see if they will do my section this Monday instead of next. Only if his movements do not pick up again.

It's so frustrating!! I've just randomly been sick aswell not sure if it's because I'm tired and worrying a little but what a journey this is becoming!! I found some more aciclovir last night so I've started taking them also

You are at term now so I can’t see a reason why they wouldn’t want to move it forward. Just keep pushing for what you feel is right and if that means going to the hospital every day with RM then so be it
