Hello
Can you all help me with a list of what I need! It's all new to me - It's my first baby I'm 26 weeks and have bought nothing yet.
Thanks in advance :)

DJBebe that's an awful lot of gin for a new mum 😄

DJBebe · 23/07/2020 20:59

Hope it helps. I found it too helpful not to share the list. When are you due? I am due on 30th Sept. 🥰

Sheera1 · 23/07/2020 21:04

30 muslins?? Jeezo. That seems overkill. I think I had 5.

DJBebe · 23/07/2020 21:04

@Missh07 did i misspell any words? Hahaha 🙈🤣🤣. Gin wasn't on the original list but i do have a bottle of champagne in the fridge ready to pop when we return from hospital. 😂 i would not mind a G&T either

Lockdownseperation · 23/07/2020 21:06

More clothes. Fewer swaddled blankets - I never swaddled. Babies don’t need soap. For breast feeding lashion nipple cream, hydrogel pads, lashion thermapearl, contact details of a private lactation consultant, 2 extra long phone cables and contigo insulated cup.
Shnuggle baby bath.
Play mat
Why do you want a crib and a next to me?

I also recommend the positive birth book and positive birth company hypnobirthing. They are completely separate authors.

caringcarer · 23/07/2020 21:21

Don't buy lots of first or birth size baby grows if you have a large baby it will go straight into 0-3. My niece had loads of tiny stuff she bought and washed to make it softer then had a baby weighing 9lb 7 Oz and it was too small. She gave it all to my dd who had a smaller baby 6 weeks later. If you have a summer baby you won't need that many blankets. I think the list is too big. Don't forget babies wear clothing for a few weeks each outfit then outgrow. Only buy 4 outfits in 0-3 and wait and see what you are given. My dd was gifted 8 outfits in 0-3 but swapped 4 of them for 3-6 months. Keep receipts if they are given to you.

Stargazer87 · 23/07/2020 21:24

Following! Looks like a great list!

AlviesMam · 23/07/2020 21:25

Thanks everyone!

I'm due 2nd November 😀 @DJBebe

I'm going to make a list and tick off things week by week. Grin

Star blanket for use in the car seat.

Baby wearing coat.

Lockdownseperation · 23/07/2020 21:28

Thermometer. A thermometer is an essential. It literally saved my life after I had DD1.

yikesanotherbooboo · 23/07/2020 21:58

OP I would call the above list quite aspirational. You do not need anything like that amount of stuff . Lots of things might be nice to have but are really not essential. The baby needs a car seat( if you have a car) , some sort of carrier eg sling or buggy , somewhere to sleep eg your bed/ next to me/ carry cot/ Moses basket and clothes. You are likely to be given some clothes but you will need vests , babygros, a few cardigans and a hat or two. I didn't buy newborn size of anything and have average sized babies 6'12 - 8 3 . 7 of anything is enough if you have a washing machine and a washing line. Buy a packet of disposable nappies or reusable sand wipes either disposable or reusable. You will need bedding for any bed eg 3 sets . Anything more is luxury. Not to say a baby monitor, a few muslins, a bouncer etc might not be nice to have but don't get dragged into unnecessary expense. Amazon and Boots are available to easily access anything you feel might be useful going forward.

SandyDanny · 24/07/2020 13:31

Try www.getgetgot.com. It's got a list of everything you might need for a newborn in order of popularity. So you can see, for example, that a nappy bin is recommended by 43% of new parents and the top online checklists. And nappies are recommended by 100% (unsurprisingly!). It's a long list but great for seeing what you actually need.
