ANYONE ELSE HAD THIS DURING PREGNANCY?

Hey everyone. Just wanted to see if anyone else has had the same problem as I have...any advice or stories would be appreciated :)

I’m 24 weeks pregnant. I had a scan yesterday and the consultant told me my cervix is borderline/a little below borderline and I am prone to pre labour. I’ve been given pessaries for this.

Has anyone had this and had the medication? Has it helped? Not made a difference?

TIA Smile

I was in prenatal intensive care with a woman who had this at 24 weeks but her cervix had already started to open. She was only given the pessaries and within two days she was having normal scans, the cervix was closed and she was discharged. I don’t know what the eventual outcome was but she didn’t come back in the week I was there (and it was the only option in the country at 24 w so she can’t have gone anywhere else).

Thanks for your message. My cervix is closed as far as I know, they have just said I could go into labour anytime. I have another scan on Monday.

Hi @Pregnancy2020xx 💐

Sorry to hear you’re going through this worrying time. It’s a big load of shit isn’t it!

I’m 25+1 with twins and my cervix was found to be just 15mm 😬 (so well below the starting point of 25mm for increasing risk)

I’m guessing that yours must have been 24-25mm. Did you have any risk factors like previous LLETZ surgery?

Nothing is proven to work with twins but there is good evidence that progesterone suppositories can be effective with singletons 👍 I asked to be given the progesterone anyway.

My next scan isn’t until next weds when I’ll be 26+2 so I’m impressed by how proactive your hospital sound, it’s good that they are checking soon.

The problem is that it could mean we go into labour tomorrow or it could be that it stays the same and we make it all the way to term. There are stats for probabilities but they can’t say for definite which way things will go.
Try downloading the “QUIPP” app and putting in your details and it will give you specific percentages from here x

My other big point is that right now the biggest single factor that will cause labour/PPROM sooner is infection. So you should be on total pelvic rest (no orgasms, no stimulation and no touching your nipples either!) and avoid putting anything whatsoever in your vagina.

Using the pessaries is best done rectally because putting them in your vagina is both a risk of introducing infection and a risk of causing cervical irritation (which you really don’t need right now! Lol)

I’m on Cyclogest (which I used till 12wks because I did IVF) and it works exactly as well up the butt 👍👍👍 xx

My cervix shortened at 24 weeks by 1cm to 2.4cm, I was given progesterone pessaries, three a day I think, used them right up to 36 weeks and was signed off work at 32 weeks as cervix was soft, but DD hung in then until 40+5 even though I'd started to dilate within a week of stopping the pessaries :) so, for me they worked well

Did they call it placenta previa? Or say your placenta was over the cervix? It's not uncommon or rare, there's guidance in the NHS website. You need to practice "pelvic rest", and not carry heavy things.
