Baby clothing basics - where do you buy?

FTM here, looking for baby basics such as vests and sleepsuits etc 🙂

Most big shops and supermarkets have all the basics for pretty reasonable prices (although hard to get hold of at the moment 😅) but wondering if there are any you would recommend over others in terms of quality/fit/washing well? 😊

Sainsbury’s Tu, M&S, Next and Asda. That order.

Hanrora06 · 18/07/2020 16:11

Following this thread! Also a FTM, due in December so I've got ages, but I'm starting my research now so I'm reading to go! I know what I think looks nice so far (M&S and H&M) but not sure what actually is nice!

squirrelnutkins1 · 18/07/2020 16:17

Morrison's nutmeg range as well

sugarplumfairy2010 · 18/07/2020 16:17

The best vest I found were marks and spencers and the best sleepsuits from next. They wash and wear brilliantly. I have some sleepsuits ready for our 3rd daughter used by both her sisters and still look like new.

glasshalfsomething · 18/07/2020 16:20

Tu all the way! Especially when it’s 25% off. I rate their gro-bags too

peachypetite · 18/07/2020 16:21

Friends rate Tu highly

TU for sleepsuits and baby grows and sleepsuits , followed by next (clearance). Both wash really well and are good sizing.

The 25% for TU is really good keep an eye out for it

itisntfriday0000000000l · 18/07/2020 16:23

@glasshalfsomething agree re the growbags too

Ritchie30 · 18/07/2020 16:43

Thanks everyone 😊 this forum is so handy!! I’ll keep an eye on them all for stock coming back in 😊

Although not mentioned in my original post I also agree that Nutmeg at Morrison’s and Florence an Fred at Tesco’s are also quite good. But TU at Sainsburys still my number 1.

Stargazer87 · 18/07/2020 21:59

I didn't realise Tu was so good! Predicted date for 25% off is 11 August!

nokia3210567 · 18/07/2020 22:06

Honestly with baby clothes I have found the more you spend the better quality which is unusual for high street in adult clothes!

Best Quality
John Lewis
M&S
Next

Medium Quality
H&M
TU (sainsburys) though sizing can be small

Worst Quality (as in I wouldn't buy from them again-terrible!)
Matalan
Primark
George

Domino45 · 18/07/2020 22:12

I love next baby clothes, but only in the sale otherwise it can be pricey. Marks and Spencers have nice bits too, especially with the 20% sparks offer they sometimes do.
TU clothes are good value and wash well

IsItGinOclock1 · 18/07/2020 22:39

Our baby stuff was mainly from Asda, next or m&s. I didn’t actually buy m&s but so many gifts were from there and they are nice. Asda was great for vests or cheap baby grows but I preferred next generally, their stuff is much nicer but also easily double the price.

Gin4thewin · 18/07/2020 22:55

Sainsbury's 100%

They wash and tumble dry lovely, plus cost is great, even without the 25% off.

Found asda stuff shrinks and goes bobbly, have found aldi baby grows and vests very good too

mobear · 19/07/2020 00:31

The Pima cotton line at John Lewis is really nice but comes in and out of stock: www.johnlewis.com/search?Ntt=Baby+Pima

HarrietM87 · 19/07/2020 08:29

I liked John Lewis and Next. The in store selections for Next were often really heavily gendered (which I hate) but they have a much wider range online. Both JL and next were much thicker and softer than others we had.

I didn’t try Tu for sleepsuits but they were good for older baby clothes so I’d say definitely worth a try! Agree re avoiding ASDA and Primark.
