Would you travel abroad at 27 weeks?

We have our baby moon booked in 7 weeks time to somewhere special that means a lot to us as a couple but it is a six hour flight away. The risk there is much less than the UK so that isn’t playing on my mind it’s the flight I'm thinking about the past few days. Partly COVID although I do think as everyone has to be masked up, anti bac’ed up is it really worse than being in a supermarket or shop multiple times a week with people that aren’t following any rules any less of a risk.. I don’t know. I’m actually more concerned about travelling with a bump and the cabin pressure etc is it really not a good idea to travel that late on?

I travelled at 27 weeks in my second pregnancy and 28 weeks in my 3rd pregnancy. No problems at all, just had to get a fit to fly from my midwife.
However, in the current climate, I wouldn’t.

In normal circumstances I wouldn't hesitate as long as everything was going OK with the pregnancy. In fact, I flew abroad at 16/17 weeks and had another 2 trips booked (at 23 weeks and at 30 weeks) which were cancelled due to lockdown.

7 weeks is still a while away and a lot could change in that time but, bearing in mind you're classed as more vulnerable from 28 weeks, the current situation would definitely put me off.

Would you even get insurance to cover you?

I did with my first with no problems but I wouldn't at the moment with all this going on.

I flew at 33 and 34 weeks. It was around 13 hours in the air door so about 18/20 hours door to door. It was a bit of a mare.
At 27 weeks I think it’s totally doable but you need to get closer to the date to see how you feel.
Im lacked with covid and travelled last week, but I don’t think I’d travel at 27 weeks in the current climate.
But a lot can change in 7 weeks.

No way!

I travelled to a v remote bit of Africa (three flights) at 28 weeks, coming back at 30. Got a fit to fly note from midwife and none of the airlines raised it. It was fine. Would have been problematic if I’d had problems, but I didn’t. Depends how much that would stress you. It wasn’t the flight that was risky, it was the remoteness of the destination. It was an important trip for me - my last great escape for a bit. Not sure if I’d have done it during covid.

As a pp has said - Id check your insurance. Likely no one will cover you currently because of Covid, and also, from 28 weeks a small study has shown pregnant women to be much more severely affected if they did contract Covid.

You really need to check with your insurance. How many weeks will you be on return? Travel is so unpredictable at the moment, I'd be worried about getting stuck there longer and struggling to get home.

I went to Crete at 29 weeks. I made sure I had insurance that covered both me and the baby. I’m not sure I would risk it now with Covid though.

I flew abroad at 25 weeks for a city break in europe. Also flew at 9 weeks and 19 weeks on business trips domestically. Found all of them fine. But this was pre covid!

I flew put at 29 weeks and got incredibly ill whilst there, so much so that local doctors wanted to hospitalise me.
If they had done, I would have been past the airline's date for travelling whilst pregnant on my return. I risked returning to the U.K and ended up in hospital here for nearly 2 weeks, with another 6 weeks recovery. It was really really scary, and was pre-covid. Before that I went everywhere but it was an eye opener.
I'm sorry about your holiday though OP.

I am planning to fly at 26/27 weeks... but to a low risk EU country only 2 hours away (or connected by train if necessary), and with the ability to still change our minds if something changes in next few weeks...

I flew domestically at the end of June as well.

I am planning to fly at 25 weeks but only to France so I could actually drive back if need be!
Do airlines need a midwifes note at that stage does anyone know?
