Walking 10000 steps a day in third trimester

Hi, I'm 29 weeks pregnant and up till now have been walking minimum 10000 steps a day and found this very easy, most of my walks have been very hilly. Now I'm starting to find this more tiring and I find that my bump aches while I'm walking. Should I just power through and keep this up or start slowing down now and walking less? I'd love to go swimming but of course that's out. Any advice would be great. Thanks 😊

Just do what you can manage for as long as you can manage it and don't be too hard on yourself if you need to slow down.

I was going out for decent walks every day till about 30 weeks, now (at 36 weeks) i manage 1 or 2 a week! I find my hips and pelvis ache, my lower bsck starts to hurt and my feet swell like puddings. You have to listen to your body.

I was still weight training and walking 3-6 miles daily up until around 34 weeks. I’m now 38 weeks and can only manage a very slow 2 miles a day with plenty of stopping!

Just be sensible with what you can manage - definitely good to keep active, but don’t exhaust yourself

Agree with above, listen to your body, things are changing, as soon as baby is here you can increase your exercise again if you want to. When it starts to hurt afterwards you may want to ease back, dont risk injury or varicous veins or piles or many other things🙂

Similar I was doing 12-15 every single day and then at 30 weeks it suddenly was such an effort, backaching and out of breath more so I have now reduced my aim to 10k a day made up of smaller walks but some days do much less , I think it’s important to just To do what you can manage and listen to your body! I have a piece of tubi grip I wear on walks around my bump that gives some lower back support , there’s also plenty of support bands on Amazon etc

Thank you everyone for the replies! I think I may try to split my walks into more frequent, shorter walks. I have had a fairly big appetite during pregnancy so I feel like if I stop walking I will pile on the weight, I may try to cut my calories if I'm less active to make up for being less active

With my first pregnancy, due to work , I was walking 15-20kms a day up until about half way into my third trimester and then I lowered that to around 10-15 kms a day . No issues at all . But my body was use to that already . Plus that’s throughout a full day so lots of rests in between . I was on my feet right up until my waters broke at 37 weeks .

I’m 23 weeks pregnant now and doing 10-15 kms a day and I do find it harder this time around and I doubt I can keep it up until I give birth . I’m thinking of taking a very early maternity leave this time .

Like everyone else has said, listen to your body !

Wow I've never walked that much before pregnancy so I guess it's what you're used to. I have found breaking up walks and having rests in between much more manageable so I think I'll just carry on with that

Definitely listen to your body. I manage about 2 one hour walks a week now, before I was running and walking every day and doing in excess of 15k steps a day. It’s been hard admitting I need to slow down but hip, pelvis, knee and back pain has won! I’m 38 weeks now and have to rest up a lot of the time as the discomfort is too much.
